Wisconsinites seemed like such friendly rubes before all these documentarians started shining their lights on them.

I kept waiting for it to get interesting. And I still don't get what Slenderman is or why people believe he was real.

I had it cued up and ready to watch last night and my wife and step son didn't want to watch it. I think they were too scared. WTF?
I'll try to catch it later this week. Been following the case up here for the past few years, not sure there is enough info there to make
a 2 hr documentary. Sounds that way based on the initial feedback here.

I've been keeping an eye on the trial/pretrial of the schizophrenic girl in the case because her mom is a friend of a friend. The easy answer to 'who believes he is real' is: a schizophrenic girl.

It is a travesty of justice to me that they were keeping her in an adult facility and not getting her the help she needs (note: this has gotten slightly better) and I do not believe she should be tried as an adult because she is not an adult, oh and she has a mental illness that should be treated...but what would I know about the benefits of treating mental illness?

Watched it last weekend. Just like was shown in Making a Murderer this is yet another case that emphasizes that you should NEVER talk to the police without an attorney.

The video tapped police interviews were infuriating to watch. The detectives were building a case against children. They don't know shit. They think some being in the woods is going to kill them if they don't kill their friend. Sure, let's try them as adults. FUCK that.

Yeah, I do not know how they were allowed to question them without their parents or an attorney. They should not be tried as adults clearly. I do not understand the motivation to punish these children who were clearly having some mental issues. This is adults not understanding youth culture as well. Catfishing is a thing that happens all the time now. While not exactly the same this is similar. They were tricked into believing something was real. She even said that she saw Slenderman as a 3-year-old.

It glanced over a lot of these issues to focus on fan-made Slenderman stuff.

A reasonably diligent person could find out the origins of the Slenderman tale with minimal effort. Also, their actions didn't really even follow the Slenderman myth.

It sure didn't seem to me that the illness prevented the children from understanding right from wrong. They knew what they were doing was wrong but did it anyway.

Right or wrong is interesting thing to look at. One of the things about schizophrenia is that you do not not what is real and what is fantasy/delusion and their cognitive functions go a little, um, crazy. So what may be seen as clearly wrong might be a little harder to differentiate especially when there is a delusion/hallucination (Slenderman) that can impact your thinking and beliefs.

On top of that, she was 12. A child who legally isn't able to drink, smoke, vote, drive, or sign any contracts because she is not believed to be able to think through consequences of actions is being tried as an adult where she can receive a punishment of being in jail until she is almost 60. Add early onset schizophrenia on top of that and I think trying her as an adult is extreme.

You didn't have an issue with their Miranda rights being read to them and only them? They may know right from wrong, they certainty don't have a clue what it means to waive their rights.

Was able to watch the first half last night. It is ok. I am sure there is still a lot yet to unfold but it is very surprising that
they are being interviewed by themselves. The one female cop even tells the girl that her parents know she is there and
it is ok to talk to her. Maybe that gets picked apart later in the film. Definitely creepy. I asked my 13yr old step son if
he had heard of the Slenderman before and he said that he had.

My oldest heard of slenderman because he was a character in minecraft, which lead to an interest in the origin. He still gets spooked by the slenderman story even though he knows the myth isn't even as old as him. He threw out some teenage slanders against me for watching the documentary

Finished this up over the weekend and it was just kinda meh... Feel bad for the girls, and not sure they should be charged as an
adult for this. Trials next hearing this month about the validity of the confessions.
