Read what I wrote. You can disagree with Bernsteins actions while acknowledging he at least had a point.

Do you think that is the point? That the rest of us are arguing that religion has nothing to do with the salutation? The point is, bernstein was an asshole.

It's simply not a big deal and I'm not sure what bernstein's endgame was in chiding the person. To protect the McDonald's stock price? To embarrass an unskilled, likely African-American worker?

And yeah, in the situation I described above, I guess you could call it mocking, but only because you know I'm an atheist. The guy I'd be saying it to would have no idea and I wouldn't be embarrassing him. I would simply be amusing myself.
Of course it is the point. I've said multiple times Bernstein shouldn't have said anything. My point is that he wasn't necessarily wrong for viewing it like it was(even if money has the word God on it!).

Of course he is wrong. You're all over the place here. If someone is unnecessarily being an asshole to someone, they are wrong. I guess now that I'm thinking about it I can see why you're disagreeing though

He doesn't have a point. You're simply wrong here, as literally every single person here is telling you. You're acting like the cashier is preaching the gospel. "Have a blessed day" has the same connotation as "have a nice day" in modern lexicon. You've already acknowledged the cashier wouldn't be wrong for saying bless you if you sneezed though so you really don't have a leg to stand on here. I can't remember the last time someone tried to keep such a wrongheaded argument going.

Not sure Missouri residents are qualified for this discussion. It's probably mandatory to say "have a blessed day" or some shit down there.

It's only my opinion but I'm going to guess that almost everyone who says "Have a blessed day" is thinking about their own beliefs when they say it. I guess she could have been talking to all the Buddhists and Muslims and Jews too though!

At least you acknowledge that it was injecting religion into a place where it had no reason to be there.

She could have been offering her blessing on his day.

When I say "have a good day" I am essentially offering you MY blessing on your day.

Anyway, describing the interaction should have been a source of embarrassment rather than a source of pride for Dan. Bring that up to Mc Donald's corporate and they are much more likely to give it THEIR blessing rather than rebuke it. In fact, if they made that corporate policy I bet they would see a spike in business, especially if the Bernsteins of the world publicly boycotted. They might even have a gofundme page started for them

You had your fun. It's time to stop now.
I know it seems like trolling but there are simple questions here no one can answer.

What are those questions? If a cashier said, "Christ Be With You", I would say the obvious- "And Also With You" and walk out of the store giggling.
The question no one has answered is "What is the reason to say 'Have a blessed day' unless you are injecting religion into a conversation"..

She should have said "I wish you luck in trying to avoid the one bite that contains my booger"

It's pretty clear you are just trolling here.

Brick's not trolling, he's right. There's no reason to inject your religious beliefs into handing you a Big Mac. Any reasonable person can blow it off, but it doesn't mean it's something that should happen.

I'm not walking back anything. Religion is a part of our daily lives. It's ok I guess if that offends you but it simply is the case.

"Something that should happen" is a weird way to phrase it. I guess I can't disagree with that. It's also not even slightly a problem that it's said. Religion is part of life, even for atheists and agnostics like us. There's really no way of avoiding the mention of it daily outside of locking yourself in a cave. It's not a problem a cashier said have a blessed day, and only an unreasonable person would argue otherwise.

You really need to stop this. I can think something is right or wrong without it personally offending me. There are plenty of phrases that don't personally offend me that I wouldn't want someone to say to me.

"Wrong" from who's perspective though? The manager of the franchise? The CEO of McDonald's? Why do you care if a guy is running his business "wrong" or if the guy's employees are doing something "wrong" if it isn't affecting you?

You seem to be getting hung up on the word offended. I'll try to rephrase it, but either way it'll probably be an issue with you being so sensitive about this. Here goes..... If you have any problem with someone saying "have a blessed day" to you, it's YOUR problem. Not theirs and not their employers.

Injecting religious beliefs? Let's not be ridiculous. If this upsets you, you are looking for things to be upset about.

I used to work with a woman who always said "have a blessed day," and I'm pretty sure she wasn't even that religious. It's just something she probably grew up saying in her household and she didn't think anything of it.

I believe it is wrong to inject your religious beliefs onto others in a conversation. This is admittedly a lower bar than what others would do but the general point remains the same.

I'd feel the same way if someone said "Have a Godless Day".

Saying the latter would likely get someone fired. There's no doubt that atheists are a truly persecuted minority in the U.S.

 reminds me of when I got off the bus at Ft Knox for orientation to basic training. The drill sergeant receiving us said something to the effect of "Young men, please understand the Army will not issue you a religion, but you are highly encouraged to find a higher power and ask them to figure out why the fuck you ended up at a place like this!"

I'm not walking back anything. Religion is a part of our daily lives. It's ok I guess if that offends you but it simply is the case.

I believe it is wrong to inject your religious beliefs onto others in a conversation. This is admittedly a lower bar than what others would do but the general point remains the same.

I'd feel the same way if someone said "Have a Godless Day".

I say that to everyone.

Without speaking.

what if heaven is listening to Brick argue about minutia all day long, and hell is being told "have a blessed day" wherever you go?

Hell is a STEMlord who thinks he's Cicero.
