Injecting religious beliefs? Let's not be ridiculous. If this upsets you, you are looking for things to be upset about.

I used to work with a woman who always said "have a blessed day," and I'm pretty sure she wasn't even that religious. It's just something she probably grew up saying in her household and she didn't think anything of it.
How do some of you not understand the concept of thinking something is right or wrong is not the same concept as being personally offended by something.

The scale here is admittedly lower which is why I asked if someone said "May Christ be with you" if that would be ok? I think most people would feel that would be inappropriate. The same general concept exists here.

I'm lucky that my life is considered acceptable by most of the major religions. However, let's imagine that a person was gay and had been kicked out of the church and had strained or no relationship with their family because religion said homosexuality is wrong and this person told them to "Have a blessed day". Would they be irrational in being upset by the phrase?

I'm not even saying the person who did it is a bad person or anything. It's just not an appropriate comment in that situation. That is it.

If you're eating McDonald's, you'd better have some religion.

 reminds me of when I got off the bus at Ft Knox for orientation to basic training. The drill sergeant receiving us said something to the effect of "Young men, please understand the Army will not issue you a religion, but you are highly encouraged to find a higher power and ask them to figure out why the fuck you ended up at a place like this!"

He must have been at Benning as well.

Well, now we have a clear line of disagreement here. At least you can still be champion of the "working man"!

"Have a blessed day" is the polite passive aggressive way to say fuck you chief.

Fully supported.

The "if you're offended by this" comments were largely pointed to afternoon host who was offended by it. You know, the budding SJW who discovered feminism and gay rights after being a radio shitlord for 12 years.

It's because you and Rick haven't really thought your position through. If it's wrong, it's because it's offensive (at least to enough people that it would matter). If it's not offending anybody, you simply cannot make a case that it is wrong.

Obviously, there will be plenty of people who would and should be offended by injecting religion into a place where it doesn't belong. Your argument is that this isn't "offensive enough". The same general idea applies. It would be better if this person didn't say "Have a blessed day" and instead choose any of the hundreds of non-religious ways to end a conversation.

Also, it is disingenuous to say "If it's not offending anybody, you simply cannot make a case that it is wrong" and then also say "If you are offended by this, then you are wrong". You might as well just say "I don't think it is wrong so that means it isn't wrong".

Huh? That's not disingenuous at all. Both of those statements are correct, in my opinion. It's ridiculous to be offended by that statement, even if you were disowned by your religious parents or whatever hard luck story you wanna come up with, and if you are offended by it, i think you're wrong to be. You and KD are the ones trying to dance around and say it's wrong but not offensive, which just doesnt make sense.

In your opinion is the key word.

You set things up to say no one should be offended by this or they are wrong and also since no one is offended by it then it is not wrong.

I believe there are a lot of people that don't want to have religion injected into their food purchase.

Hypothetical Persecuted Gay Guy could potentially be offended.

I think there are a lot of people that could or would be offended by it.

I just happen not to be one of them.

The problem is you have extended it to projecting your opinion on everyone in saying that no one would be offended by this and if they are offended by it then they are wrong.

I'm not projecting my opinion on to everyone, and I don't believe I ever said nobody would be offended by the saying. I said its wrong to be offended by it, because it is. I also said the two guys here arguing that it's wrong aren't even offended by it so it's hard to take your argument seriously.

Ok, I guess you want to take everything literally. I'll take that back then and just say nobody on this board seems to give a shit and in the 5+ years I've worked at a restaurant nobody ever gave a shit enough to complain about someone saying that. Yet for some reason you think there's some large number of people out there who would be offended.

Obtuse Rick strikes again!

That was one single comment from multiple posts disagreeing with you, and it was obviously meant as an exaggeration to prove a point. It would be like saying "Nobody gives a shit about the WNBA" Of course that's literally not true, but the general sentiment behind it obviously is.

Anyway, I think you should finally be able to understand why we all thought you were trolling. Nobody HERE would be upset by someone saying it, and yet you still feel the need to argue on behalf of some unknown, unquantifiable group of people who MIGHT potentially be offended by such an innocuous statement. C'mon.

It's like you think you can just say "Obtuse" as some cure-all response. The post is clear. It's not my fault that I took your words as your words.
