This one has been mentioned a couple of times by a few people. I do not quite fully get it. For all of the mistakes Trump is being lit up for why was this so terrible? He took a call regarding the Korean missile issue in front of the PM of Japan. Japan probably needed to know. Maybe there is more to it but I am going to guess presidents take calls in weird situations.
Yes it is terrible. First of all, he didn't even know what the information was. It could have included specific information about Japan or one of their other allies. You never know what is going to come out of this. Japan is an ally(though Trump seems to view allies as enemies too) but information is still important. What we tell Japan and what the President is told is going to be different.

It also calls into question how our allies will view discussing things with us. Being so unconcerned about secrets like that makes us look stupid. What happens the next time an ally calls with information? Will Trump's dinner companion that night get it too?

Look, I am not saying it was a great choice. I am saying it is not some big thing or the worst of his issues. In the CNN telling of it below it states his initial briefing occurred in some secure SCRIFF thing or something before the dinner. It went on to say the call and cell phone lights were for discussions on less important matters like logistics of a presser etc. Furthermore, the general tone of CNN is much less over the top of some here on the matter. I will stick with CNN.

He is a month in and there are already three things to be very concerned about. It's a pattern already. If this was the only mistake he had made then it probably isn't a big deal. That isn't the case.

Well I said that a few posts above alluding to his mistakes. Just pointing out this one seems to be less high on my worry list. BTW, no way you read what I linked from the time stamp.
I didn't read it because it is irrelevant. That mistake on it's own would not be a big deal. Why would an article saying it isn't a big deal matter?

It's the pattern that is the big deal. It's not a defense to say "Well, he's done worse!".

I didn't mean that Bernie is a vulgarian. Certainly not in the same way as Trump anyway. What I meant was that the groundswell of support behind him was based on people looking for change, different ways of doing things. If that manifested itself in a wildly different approach stylistically as it has with Trump, so be it. Sometimes that comes along with change. Unless of course, most people don't really want change. Which I would guess is likely the truth.

Also, I don't disagree with your take on Sanders as a career politician. His support for Clinton was seen by many of his supporters as a betrayal, but it's what one would expect.

Many wanted change. As you said though some are not comfy with it. They would probably be happier of all these changes came from a polished product like a Romney type.

The change they want is theoretical. They don't like what the change actually looks like.

I disagree. People don't like Trump. MANY still love the idea of a guy like Trump minus the racism, bigotry, sexism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, unwillingness to learn and desire to destroy every branch/system/institution of government that we have. We want someone competent to shake things up. Others just want to burn it all to the ground.

This is good stuff--if this isn't the People getting what they deserve, I don't know what it. Not quite shaving the gay kid but good enough. Strange how Miller's Jewishness isn't mentioned all that much given the circles he runs in. Stephen Miller - Wayne LaPierre = Dan Bernstein.

http://washingtonmonthly.com/2017/02/13 ... f-bigotry/

On the one hand, who cares what Joe Scarborough has to say? On the other hand, he was so alarmed and appalled by Trump aide Stephen Miller’s performance on the Sunday morning talk shows that he’s talking about impeachment.

Scarborough said the White House is “embarrassing themselves by putting this guy up,” describing Miller’s “performance” as “horrendous” and “an embarrassment.” “That is the talk of a dictator, not somebody who is president of the United States,” Scarborough said. If Trump’s administration were to actually act based on Miller’s suggestions, “we could have impeachment proceedings within the next six months,” Scarborough warned.

Meanwhile, Univision has tracked down some of Miller’s childhood friends, and the stories are a little unsettling. For example:

Stephen Miller and Jason Islas grew up in sunny southern California in the late 1990s, united by their passion for Star Trek. But Miller stopped talking to his friend as they prepared to jump from Lincoln Middle School to Santa Monica High School.

Miller only returned Islas’ phone calls at the end of the summer, to coldly explain the reason for his estrangement. “I can’t be your friend any more because you are Latino,” Islas remembers him saying.

That’s cold. And it only got worse.

Univision Noticias spoke with several classmates who said Miller had few friends, none of them non-white. They said he used to make fun of the children of Latino and Asian immigrants who did not speak English well.

Early on, Miller began to write opinion columns in conservative blogs, the local press and the high school’s own newspaper, The Samohi. He also contributed at times to the national radio show of Larry Elder, a conservative African American, and once invited him to speak at the school.

Displaying his hostility toward minorities, Miller complained to school administrators about announcements in Spanish and festivals that celebrated diversity.

In his third year at the school, the 16-year-old Miller wrote a letter to The Lookout, a local publication, about his negative impression of Hispanic students and the use of Spanish in the United States.

“When I entered Santa Monica High School in ninth grade, I noticed a number of students lacked basic English skills. There are usually very few, if any, Hispanic students in my honors classes, despite the large number of Hispanic students that attend our school,” Miller wrote.

“Even so, pursuant to district policy, all announcements are written in both Spanish and English. By providing a crutch now, we are preventing Spanish speakers from standing on their own,” he added. “As politically correct as this may be, it demeans the immigrant population as incompetent, and makes a mockery of the American ideal of personal accomplishment.”

In that article, Miller also complained about his school’s celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the existence of a gay club and a visit by a Muslim leader.

I guess it’s not surprising that Miller wound up working for Sen. Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III of Alabama.

Star Trek is notable for its vision of a future in which people from different countries and racial backgrounds work together harmoniously. It’s a shame that Miller couldn’t embrace that vision or continue his friendship with Jason Islas.

Now he’s the right-hand of the president of the United States and he’s promising us that their “opponents, the media and the whole world will soon see as we begin to take further actions, that the powers of the president to protect our country are very substantial and will not be questioned.”

Is it a surprise that the way Miller and Trump want to protect our country is to keep us safe from Muslims and Latinos?

You keep imputing those attributes to Trump, including the propaganda word "Islamophobe". If he was really all those things do you really think a network would have given him a TV show?

Yes! If it sells they'll put it on. He wasn't saying many of these things prior to running. After 4 or 8 years in office every network would give him a show again because he will make them money. It's the primary reason he got over $1 billion in free advertising.

If somebody can turn a dollar for a network they will always have a job.

I loved growing up in San Antonio. One of the best big cities in America.

I didn't dig the San Antonio ER show. Was that on ABC? I rolled my eyes at the ex Army ranger turned brilliant ER doc.

 It's not about what's morally right. It's about advertising. Sponsors aren't going to embrace a racistsexisthomophobe. This view of Trump only came to be once he became a threat to the Establisment candidate who must not be named.

My post was based on your posts.

Your retort is based on your having little skill in making or defending a salient political thought.

Clearly equitable.

Your post is based on your fucking idiocy. Where you got the idea that name-calling substitutes for argument, I have no idea, but it's certainly not the intellectual high ground you seem to think it is.

Well, I just don't accept racistbigothomophobe as an argument ender. It's something people with no argument use to shout down those with whom they disagree. It's the worst sort of ad hominem attack. And all too common from the modern American "Left".

Well, I just don't accept racistbigothomophobe as an argument ender. It's something people with no argument use to shout down those with whom they disagree. It's the worst sort of ad hominem attack. And all too common from the modern American "Left".

What about antisemite? MANY would say that your views on Muslims/Islam is far worse than anything anymore has ever posted about Jewish people. You're offended when someone calls you an islamophobe or worse. That is your right but you are very comfortable calling people who disagree with Netanyahu an antisemite. Your reasoning for doing it? "If every statement a person makes regarding Jews is negative, I don't know what else to call it." That's odd and extremely hypocritical

 yea those network TV bosses, always doing what's morally right

 It's not about what's morally right. It's about advertising. Sponsors aren't going to embrace a racistsexisthomophobe.

I can't even tell if you're being serious here. Yeah, Fox News is really having trouble getting sponsors.

I see Trump as a vulgarian who has no respect for convention or tradition. But if I were to play devil's advocate I would ask, wasn't that the entire point of the popular movements behind Trump as well as Sanders?

Trump yes, Sanders no. I mean, Bernie was certainly a little rougher around the edges than a good, practiced nouveau-riche matriarch like Hillary. (Remember all the Beccas crying in the bathroom at "nerd prom" because Bernie didn't wear a tuxedo to "their" event and thus devalued their entire careers? Dorks.) But I think Bernie, a guy who's worked in government his whole life, had some respect for the idea of it. He just wanted to get the Democrats back on offense and try to get us back to a, say, mid-20th-c. conception of government as force for good -- building infrastructure, funding education, taking care of the sick and old. Bernie's "vulgarity," such as it was, was incidental to his ideas, whereas Trump was more about vulgarity for its own sake.

Complete nonsense. Was anyone on here saying "we want change! Ban the Muslims! Mock judges! Fuck your daughter!"? Of course not. People were calling for economic change, and that's the one area where Trump has been nothing but a status quo Republican.

What do you call a person who called for a Muslim ban during his campaign other than a Islamophobe?

Do you know the history of the term "Islamophobe"?

Stop granting terrible thoughts special status just because they happen to be part of a "great" religion. If there were a bunch of people that believed in the subjugation of women and tossing gays off buildings and those beliefs weren't couched as religion you'd look like a complete asswipe to be thrilled about those people entering the U.S.

And I'm not anti-immigrant or against taking in refugees. The U.S. should take our share, and frankly, that share is probably greater than anyone else's. But to characterize those who are concerned about the immigration of people who don't share liberal Western values and have already thumbed their noses at such in Europe as "phobic" is just horseshit propaganda.

Now you're imputing those things to an entire news organization.
