Pitchers and catchers report today.

Hopefully Cubs can keep Chicago interested until football fires up again.

Going to be there March 8-13 and can't wait. Spring training Baseball, golfing and laying around the pool. Gonna try to get together with Big Fan for a round of golf. We talked about golfing together in the past and were together at an outing one time, but have not golfed together previously. Looking forward to seeing Almora taking the reins in CF and becoming the next core player. Want to see Jimenez too. See how far off he looks to be.

I'm sure there is a connection to the Cubs finally winning after 108 years and BigFan no longer running this board.

I'm already sick of hearing and reading about Schwarber catching. I REALLY hope that they don't let him do it. Ever.

I recall a team winning the "2005" WS in 2006 they had a new Centerfielder that was the next "Mickey Mantle" how did that work out?

It worked out about as horribly as this post. Nobody ever compared Brian Anderson to The Mmick.

I may have to walk back all my Schwarber is better than Dunn in LF talk. He looks AWFUL. Gimpy to the nth degree. Completely different than the guy I remember from 2015.

don't worry, he's going to be an awesome catcher

I think the Cub management is in the stage of their evolution where they are so smitten with their prospects that they cannot properly evaluate their deficiencies.

Yeah, the Cubs have done a terrible job with self evaluation of their prospects....

Thats not what gd said.

Dunn may have the better offensive numbers when its all said and done.

Never mind they traded Torres for a Chapman rental and Soler for a Wade Davis rental.

gd said "they are at the stage of", meaning right now. You talked about the past twice. And Im not sure Soler is still a prospect.

Keep up.

Schwarber isn't a prospect either. I'm assuming that is who he is referring to. ("smitten" with.)

Also, Frank, unless you are GD's lawyer, perhaps you should let him speak for himself here.

Soler has almost 700 MLB AB. That ain't a prospect. They bailed on him before the market completely disappeared. He is more a proof of my statement than a refutation.

They didn't have time to fall in love with Torres BUT, we'll see how that self evaluation worked as trading him is a statement about their thoughts on his superiority versus Russell.

236 MLB AB.

I understand he is being penciled in for 50 HR but he is neither a finished product nor as definite as some portray. He has had nice playoffs.

He's not a finished product but it's hard to call a guy that has made significant contributions in two post seasons a "prospect".

There is only room for one slugging outfielder that can't play defense on this roster. So it was down to Soler and Schwarber. They went with Schwarber. That was the right call. Soler has a attitude problems.

Not to a Cub fan.

Those five games last year changed everything

He sucked back then too.

The bigger question is if he is still a dominant home run hitter. It was a small sample size but his World Series performance wasn't that of a dominant home run hitter.
