We may have done this once before but we need pageviews on this site and Seacrest isn't around to post about vaccines.

Do you like what you do? What percentage of it do you find enjoyable?

If it helps the discussion to have a solid example imagine this scenario:

You are offered (enough to live on with a modest lifestyle but with few luxuries) forever in order to not work and not work anywhere else. Do you take it?

I'll take that deal in a minute .

I like my job. Good work environment and I enjoy the product we put out. I don't make enough to live on 50% of my salary but if I did I would take the offer despite being happy with my job.

I enjoy my job.

If half of my salary was enough to support a family, I would take it.

I'd take 50% pretax forever in a heartbeat.

I like about 70% of what I do. I just can't do it as efficiently as I used to do it, especially the writing. I used to be able to be at a client site all day, grab a nap for 45 minutes, get some dinner and then work in the room from 8pm-midnight. Sleep until 5:30, do it again. Now that I'm in my early 50s, there's no gear left at 8pm to do anything thoughtful. So I get by most of the time on my knowledge and ability to run a team, but sometimes life gets very rough when I have to do thoughtful writing on technical topics.

I'm fortunate to work for a good company, and we've reached an agreement where I'm going to slow down a little bit and give up some salary for a lot more vacation time (almost 10 weeks a year, but I've promised to not take more than a week at a time for 8 of them).

I have only been here 4 weeks as of today, so no real opinion. And no I couldn't live on 50% of my salary with a son about to go to college.

The 50% was too variable as we have rich guys like badrogue would do it easily.

Imagine you basically had enough to live on with very few luxuries or you could work and make a lot more than that. Basically, do you enjoy your day to day life currently enough you would continue it without technically having to.

You aren't retiring and golfing and taking vacations all year.

You'll have more time to work after you are kicked out of the Clash Royale Clan.

I'm 12 years into my second career. 17 years in a 2-3 man shop, now with largest employer in the county. Getting used to working with so many people who don't work is difficult for me, along with the office politics and the SJW attitudes. But, when I actually get to just do the work, I love it. And, since in 2016 I made nearly triple the money I made in 2005, I think I can accept the BS until retirement.

Hey Hawger, I'm staring at a kid going off to college next year as well, but the first two are already in college and will be for two more years. It can and will get worse, believe me. I could get by on 50% of my gross, but not pay all that tuition out of pocket.

I like my job.

Is there an accepted definition of a modest lifestyle?

Yep, that was the deal I had to make with Satan himself: you make much more money, but your team will suck for decades after winning it all this year. Sorry, guys, I had to do it.

I love the flexibility. I'm confident that if I didn't have certain responsibilities that I could make a lot more money and spend a lot less money.

If money wasn't an issue I would do nothing but charity work. Can I invest my money? If not, I wouldn't take the deal.

It's not how much you make Rick, it's how much you spend . Although I will admit that living out here
in the burbs to escape the blacks and be near all chain restaurant establishments comes at a cost.

I forgot to mention the inability to enjoy fast-casual dining.

I enjoy my day job. I just got a new boss, which should help balance out some of the only things I didn't like about it. So, I don't know... I enjoy maybe 92% of my job?

The job I just started in October is already the best one I've ever had. Supportive company with great benefits, some regional travel but no weekends (yet), get to fix broken medical stuff in between, reasonable OT. Get to keep all the hotel and air points.

I love my job as I work from home half of the time.

I could live on 50%, but it wouldn't be enjoyable and with all of the things my family and I enjoy

For you, it's only limiting yourself to three women on the yacht @ a time.
