Jason Goff is thoroughly mediocre as a sports radio host and he's shown next to no improvement over the last few years. After all this time, filling in as a host, going to Atlanta to have his own show, teaming up with Spiegel and now teaming up with Bernstein, he still does not have the chops to host a good show. He's not eloquent in the least. He still asks long, rambling questions when acting as the interviewer and he also cannot finish a thought without pausing incessantly. There's still no smoothness to his speech, he never sounds natural. I thought there was a chance Bernstein and Goff could be an entertaining listen because they seem to genuinely like each other and have decent chemistry but it has been mostly bland similar to Spiegel and Goff.

I like Goff enough. No he is not a polished Syracuse educated broadcaster but he does a decent enough job and comes off as a regular guy. My biggest complaint is his questioning during interviews. He seems to ramble so long in questions that I am not even sure if he remembers what he started with when he finishes. He makes the interviewee work too hard.

Goff is good. Goff is great. Thank you Goff for telling me today's TV slate.

Goff: Thanks, playa. Wanna come to my crib? It would be dope.

good dolphin: What does that mean? I'm confused.

To be fair, Goff has never had to better himself in order to keep his job...

I have enjoyed the new pairing for the most part. They seem comfortable together and seem to blend well. I miss Terry but so far so good in my world.

Their utter lack of attention to the Blackhawks since he has started is just uncalled for. You have a team with a legit chance to win another title and they would rather talk about how the Bulls window for a championship has closed.

No one wants to hear hockey talk. And if they do have hockey talk, its going to be with the bloggers.

And yet almost no one wants to hear people talk Hawks/Hockey on the radio.

People enjoy saying they want to hear people talking hockey more than they want to hear people talk hockey.

Check the Hawks section. You get a thread per game and that's were discussing stops.

Mac had it right in the podcast with Dr Ken. The reason Goff is good is he's one of the few "hangout" guys left on radio. Everyone else wants to read spread sheets. Goff just wants to watch some sports and talk about it.

The Bulls are a complete dumpster fire and will likely soon be killing pets. Yet there is still more active Bulls discussion than on the Hawks. I'm waiting for baseball and don't care about either.

Definitely too giggly.

His normal Butthead-esque "huh-huh, huh-huh" while he's talking is tiresome as it is, but the high-pitched giggling is really bad.

I've tried to give him a chance in this new show but between that and his "I know something you don't know" bullshit about people being gay or doing...whatever, and his frequent race baiting I don't listen very often.

The long rambling questions by Goff happens because he often tries to answer his own question. Which is a bad way to interview people. He does it because he wants to show the guest that he knows the answer and he really doesn't need him to answer it. That he doesn't give a shit what the guest thinks.

Goff is a type A personality with a huge ego. He's even admitted that his girlfriend told him "You talk too much about yourself." But that didn't make him stop.

Goff has an amazing love affair with himself.

Goff just doesn't offer interesting opinions. Was hoping Mitch would have given Cowley a chance. Bernstein probably would not have allowed it, but that would have either been a stroke of genius or failed spectacularly.

One challenge with Cowley is that he physically lives out of town. Doing the Bud Light remotes would require physical presence. If he was in studio all show 1x/week during Bulls season, say every Thursday, that would be a good listen.

i turned it on today to begin my afternoon commute. first thing i heard was Goff giggling at the Auto Show followed by

"...yeah man. Sports is crazy sometimes."

Succinct.

goff is ok when discussing thing. but heres the deal. he's not funny. but i think he thinks he's funny. dan is funny. so dan will say something funny, they'll start giggling and then while giggling goff will try and add onto the joke in some way, and its 99% of the time unfunny. but he'll continue laughing at it and if you ask me its a forced "maybe laughing is contagious even if this joke isn't funny" way. its comes through pretty clear for me. and what should be a time for the audience to laugh at, its more cringy that we are comfortable with.

you know, i used to call him "ironically vanilla" when he hosted shows, you know, like when he was hosting he'd do whatever a perfunctory read into "Sports Talk Radio Show Hosting For Dummies" told him to do. he's the kind of guy who feels some kind of an obligation to go out of his way to play "christmas in hollis" by Run DMC around the holidays like "this is OUR christmas song" when i'd argue that anyone with half of a soul/taste-in-music would know that "santa's rap" by the treacherous three is the much better song!

That's true about Goff. I also agree that Bernstein can be funny at times. He's by far the funniest host at the SCORE.

One example of Goff doing what you say is when Bernstein goes into the character of "Dumb Chicago accent guy". Where he makes the guy a complete racist and dumb ass. Bernstein is doing a good job of it. Yet Goff feels he has to add to it with his version of "Dumb Chicago accent guy". His portrayal isn't as good as what Bernstein has going on and the comedy bit gets ruined.

Hah. Speaking of M&H, anyone catch that "Two Hanley's" the other day when he was making a play on Columbo the show and Columbus Drive? I can't help but love those two goofs.
