Yes. I make less money now, but the hours, stress, and workload have drastically decreased.

However I received some news today that may change my answer in a few months.

We might enjoy the socialization, but really liking our jobs? Why are we here half the time?

My job consists of basically masking my contempt for the assholes in charge, and, at least once a day, retiring to the men's room so I can jerk off while I fantasize about a life that doesn't so closely resemble Hell.

My job swings back and forth from "extremely rewarding and relatively easy" to "extremely frustrating but still relatively easy" so I can't complain...

...that being said, tell me bills and such are covered for life and I'm putting in my two weeks notice tomorrow.

The italics is the most likely answer to the bold.

I think with most people when you ask them if they like their jobs, they are able to process the question with the necessary context. I don't think many people would choose to keep doing what they are doing for work if money wasn't an issue but they understand you have to do something for a living and there are a lot worse jobs out there.

We spend most of our lives in cubicle prisons, doing for the most part meaningless bullshit. It's much better than being a fruit picker in California, sewing shoes in Laos or working at 7-11, but liking it is akin being a battered wife in an abusive relationship.

I'm a supervisor. It's easy to supervise while reading the board. The work I do do comes in 5-10 minute batches. I'm guessing I'm far from the only one who gets all his work done each day and still has time to post on here in between. It seems like you're suggesting people are actually ducking work to bullshit on here. I'm sure that's the case sometimes but as much as I like the board that doesn't really sound worth it.

The question was not about ducking work. I don't shame anyone for being on here. The question was about deriving fulfillment from your job. And I believe that if we found our jobs really joyful, then we would not be on here to escape them.

I guess I just disagree then. I like watching the NBA. The fact that I'll stop watching even while the game is on to look on my phone and post here doesn't really cancel out the fact I still like watching it.

But most here said they'd take the money and not work if it was all the same.

All other things being equal would you do your work for free? Just for pleasure.

I think people post here because they can speak their mind. They can be themselves. Try that shit at work. Try calling out a DiCaro like cry baby. It's an escape from work.

I enjoy my job very much. I am on call 24/7 but paid damn well for it. I get to help people live a more active satisfying life. I enjoy the interaction and personal relationships I build with them. They trust me with their lives which means the world to me. When they pass away it is like I have lost family you get that close sometimes even though you should not. Most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life. Some days you want to say screw it but you cannot because someone is depending on you.

I have been with the same company since I finished grad school. I am exactly in the middle of what you would consider a normal career length. And yet I feel like I am much closer to the end than the beginning. There is no doubt it is one of the best Fortune 500 companies to work for, and I don't think you could find another large company that has such a small company, family feel to it. And yet there is something about doing the same work for an extended period of time. The question that pops into my head is, "do I really want to do this for the rest of my working career?"

Yes, I like my job. I just never thought I would be doing the same thing for this long.

How important are "work friends" in relation to your job satisfaction?

I don't typically socialize too much (anymore) with my coworkers, but there are VERY few whom I can be myself around and have developed friendships with. Not to the point of hanging out outside of work, mind you. I reserve that for random anonymous message board people.

That is a difficult thing to realize at some age between 40-50. People especially when young and hard charging are led to believe you can always do better, advance, move up or otherwise. The reality really is that the vast majority of people become something in a profession or company and that is about it. Sure there are little moves here or there but not everyone continues to always advance. Its the higher level version of the world needs ditch diggers too.

I worked the same job in the office for a few years and now I do it from home. I never really cared about work friends there outside of my boss and the other guy on my team. However, in my position, you pretty much don't want to be friends with people because they mostly just want to use you to get what they want at work. I was friendly with just about everyone though.

I do miss the interactions working from home every day though. Even something as dumb as someone bringing in donuts for their birthday was kind of nice.

It's endless. Get to understand why Americans are fat by working in an office. There is some baked pastry brought in everyday.
