In general, people with dementia stop bathing. Trump couldn't have dementia, though, because he wears a bathrobe.

If you want examples, check out the interview with his ghostwriter for "Art of the Deal" in "The New Yorker" The exchanges described there were in the 1980s and sure sound like the Donald we are seeing today. The short attention span and everything is there.

That is an interesting piece but we would largely be arguing between sociopath and dementia in that case. It still could very well be both.

I would strongly suggest sociopath, Rick. I see your point if you were suggesting that he started getting dementia within the past five years, but he was just as crazy in 2008 and well prior. The Art of the Deal is basically a book about how to steamroll people. I just think he's more extreme now because of his role and because of the pressure.

I think sociopath hits the nail on the head with Trump.

I just don't see dementia. His father did have Alzheimers, but still lived to mid 90s. If he has a genetic disposition to it, then it probably won't manifest itself until he's in his 80s given his family history is for onset at that point. I caution that I don't speak as a medical expert here, but I do speak as someone who has unfortunately seen it 1st hand in relatives.

I'm willing to accept that as an answer too especially since you are making a case that it seems and is worse now because of the pressure.

I actually thought Trump was pretty funny back in his reality show days and I find it interesting there are actually relatively normal political interviews with him that he has done through the years. It wasn't really until the Rosie O'Donnell stuff happened that he started to publicly come off as an unhinged loon and now it is ramped up to a level I didn't even expect as late as election day.

So, I guess he either has dementia or is a sociopath and always has been but it is being magnified as he takes over the most important job in the country. That's great.

I administer a cognitive screening tool to patients at work. I seriously doubt Trump would refer on the screening, let alone fail by such a degree that would warrant further examination for dementia.

Edit: Sorry, to more directly answer your question, you administer these sorts of clinical exams. You don't let fucking Deadspin of all places convince you that it *might* be true.
