I guess if your vote comes down to stuff like abortion, gay marriage, etc., then perhaps you might look at Trump as a useful idiot kind of guy who'll do what you want even though the guy himself is a dirtbag. However if you defend everything about him then you probably run into trouble with regard to the religious basis for voting for him.

I don't think Trump has been to church since he was a kid. He did the traditional church mass the day after he was elected. So that was the first time in a long time.

There are two types of Christians. The ones that go to mass every Sunday and the ones that only go on Christmas and Easter.

Trump probably never even went on Christmas and Easter.

Well, I apparently have to wait for Seacrest to decide what I think, so I think I might be the exception to that.

On another note, I do find it funny to read the posts by Catholics on this board. It's as though they think they have some "better" form of Christianity. Some of the posts go as far as to suggest that Catholicism should be listed as its own religion.

Catholicism is merely a form of Christianity. And in America, it's not the majority sect of Christianity. We WASPs were raised going to church and keeping our beliefs to ourselves. We didn't need booze, lent, wine, priests, confession, nuns, or all-girls/boys schools to have spirituality. We went to church every Sunday and minded our own business. We also kept Catholics (sans Kennedy) out of office because we realized how non-devout they were.

Better is not the proper term. Catholicism is the ORIGINAL Christianity. Everything else is derivative. Before the reformation Catholicism=Christianity. That isn't the case anymore. However, I think you will find that the differentiation is desired more by non Catholic American Christian than Catholics.

I cast no aspersions on you and your kinfolk for dancing with snakes on the sabath. I'm sure your pastor with no formal education in Bible studies interprets the book correctly because of divine inspiration.

Well, it probably should be listed as its own religion since Catholics don't put much stock in the Bible.

Don't get too cocky though, the rest of the Christian religions are just spin-offs, like some guy who had a beef with his boss and left and took the basic business model and made a few changes.

Eh, not really. They do trace themselves back to the foundation of the church through Peter (which for the purposes of this discussion I have no beef with), essentially the first Pope more or less. Tradition is no small part of the reasoning behind MANY beliefs and practices, which dovetails nicely into the next quote ...


This is most certainly true. I would also add it's not just theologically but also liturgically.


MANY would frame it more as a case of Marty looking at a number of practices (the selling of so-called plenary indulgences being one of the more 'famous' sticking points) and felt that it was a bunch of horseshit (it was) and never once thought of himself as anything other than a Roman Catholic - he wasn't striking out a new franchise, he was removing a number of disconcerting perversions in order to restore things to the way they had been at the start ... from his point of view.
