a tribute seems to be done exactly the way the original was. a cover is a rendition of the song to make it the cover artist's version.

Original Cover: Manfred Mann's Earth Band -

Cover: Annette Tezkratt - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hx3NQ35M_4

Turns into a cover of Loving You halfway through.

Shoutout to Burt Sugarman's Midnight Special -- would be cool to see something like that back on the air.

Did you mean to put that in the "Good Covers" thread?

This is a top 5 Dylan song for me, and I am always down for some G. Lightfizzle. This is so transcendently bad I had to find this thread. I think I posted in here that the "worst" covers are songs you like, covered by people you like, that go horribly wrong. I love Joan Jett, I believe she was wholly conceived by Rock and Roll midi-chlorians , but she's got a railyard full of these, too.

How could the guy take an emotionally tortured and heart-wrenching tale of unrequited love and turn it into a weak ass blue shuffle for aging Baby Boomers in their rocking chairs? Unconscionable! And "Tears In Heaven"? Someone should throw Clapton out a window.

Has their even been a bigger waste of talent than Clapton? Dude is probably one of the greatest guitar players of all time, but has a complete shit catalog from his entire solo career.

Rod Stewart. I can remember reading a review in Circus or Creem probably around the time of Atlantic Crossing that said something like, "Rarely has there been a rock singer as talented as Rod Stewart and even more rarely has such a singer so thoroughly betrayed such talent."

Creem on Rod Stewart you say?

Wagon Wheel.

You took a solid song that was not old at all and then made it boring and shitty.

From Wikipedia:
"Wagon Wheel" is composed of two different parts. The chorus and melody for the song come from a demo recorded by Bob Dylan during the Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid sessions in February 1973. Although never officially released, the Dylan song was released on a bootleg, usually named after the chorus and its refrain, "Rock Me Mama". Dylan left the song an unfinished sketch.

Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show wrote verses for the song around Dylan's original chorus (and melody)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNTsYfjBcuQ

OCMS really fleshed the song out and put the flesh and skin on the song but the bones came from Dylan.

Agree with a lot of what has been said especially any cover by Disturbed.

I will add, and while it's not a great song to begin with, Rascal Flats version of Life is a Highway might be one of the worst things ever. But then again, anything by the Rascal Flats is complete butt.

Just cashing in on the Unplugged craze. That version sure got old fast.

I think he started it...

Tori Amos--"Smells Like Teen Spirit" (I'm ok with it as a tribute, though, as WZ pointed out)

"Cat's in the Cradle" by Ugly Kid Joe was just a waste of resources.

Anything ever covered by Motley Crue and any Beatles song covered by Aerosmith.

Disagree with Motley Crue. Their version of Smokin' in the Boys' Room is great.

Wholeheartedly agree with Ugly Kid Joe, however.

I agree. And to go along with that bad cover from the Big Daddy soundtrack, I will add Everlast's cover of Only Love can Break your Heart.

Punk bands do some of the best covers. There are few punk covers that are actually better than the original song - Me First and the Gimme Gimme's cover of Danny's Song or Slick Shoes cover of Candy.

Agreed.

I like the punk version of My Way at the end of Goodfellas.

And the original My Way is a favorite of mine, too.

While I'd love to join JORR in bagging on the wastes of talent that are Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart.....Shirtless Driver WINS.

What kills me about the Kravitz cover of American Womanis
1) Lenny is fucking awesome
2) People think that cover is awesome

Hot Garbage.

I'll add any cover of "Dancing In the Streets" Van Halen, Bowie / Jagger, Grateful Dead
all Crap.
