I predict Jay will have to play a lot more CF than the Cubs were hoping.

This may be true but Jay is an underrated player kind of like Fowler was when he came to the Cubs. Jay is really good if he plays enough and that may be the problem.

That's kind of funny, after watching him for years on the Cardinals, the consensus is he's a little overrated. He seems to get the "smart hitter" label put on him by the gas station fans because he will go the other way and things like that. He's always been very BABIP oriented, he won't walk a lot so if he isn't hitting the OBP will be fairly average. He seems to get more credit on D than he should, he's really not very fast for a CF and some of his routes aren't very efficient. One thing he is good at though: he seems to get plunked a lot, really has a knack for sticking his butt out there and taking one for the team. All in all- good player, good guy, if he is hitting 7th or 8th you have a pretty good lineup.

Almora is a better everything, Jay won't be playing much..he's just an insurance policy on the cheap.

I predict the Cubs will swoop in on the Quintana sweepstakes before the trading deadline

As much as the Cubs front office professes to love Schwarber as a player and individual, putting a Quintana deal together starting with Schwarber and adding pieces makes a bunch of sense for both teams.

Schwarbs is almost a lock for 35 dingers playing on the south side even if they protect him against tough lefties.

They really are very logical trading partners.

As early as Schwarber is in his career, he is only controlled for one year more than Quintana. Also, the Cubs lose two top level SP next year and then another in two years. They will have secured a good transition with Hendricks and Quintana. I think they will be very disappointed in Montgomery as a starter versus a reliever, not that it should matter much for this year.

I don't think the Cubs would center it on Schwarber, and I think the Sox would accept that. I think the Sox would accept something centered around that OF in the minors.

Interesting. You expecting a bad year for Davis or injury?

He's had a few arm issues. Hopefully hes good to go but cant count on it. Most closers (outside of Mariano, Chapman types) are not money in the bank year to year anyway.

Agreed. Cubs seemingly view Schwarber as a possible MVP type. As long as he stays healthy, he'll be a Cub.

I dont think Quintana makes it to the deadline. Texas, LA, Boston all rich teams with good prospects who are an injury to a SP away from texting Hahn.

Almora is better and younger but Jay will play plenty unless he gets hurt or proves he cannot do it.

98-64

Central division champs
Bryant repeats as MVP with over 40 HR and batting around .290-.300
Albert Almora Jr. ROY and gold glove winner
Schwarber will have over 30 HR
Heyward will bat between .260-.270 and contribute enough to justify regular playing time, though not his contract.

Dodgers and Mets (if each has better luck with health with regards to their pitching staff) will be the 2 principal rivals in the N.L

Cleveland and Boston should meet in the ALCS and face the Cubs in what should be another thrilling World Series. The Cubs have repeated when they won the World series in the past. No need to change that now.
