The Rizzo/Bryant vs Kane/Toews thread got me thinking about whether Rizzo might be headed towards a HOF type career and that brought Konerko to mind.

First, Is Konerko bound for the HOF? He's already a shoe-in for the Hall of the Very Good.

So far, Rizzo is very comparable to a young Konerko. Paulie hit for a little higher average while Rizzo has slightly better power numbers, through 6 seasons.

Paulie was a little fragile and Rizzo takes a beating and has already had back issues...

Are they the same guy?

I think Konerko makes it in eventually.

As a Sox fan, I don't see Konerko as a Hall of Famer. Hall of Very Good? Yes. But Konerko was not a once in a generation 1st baseman...baseball is so exclusive, it's not funny.

No Hall of Fame for Konerko. White Sox legend but not good enough.

I don't think Konerko. Rizzo needs to improve. On the other hand Eddie Murray is in. Here are the current ones.

Looks like Paulie will be close but no cigar after looking a little deeper. He's very similar to Willie Stargell numbers, who's in...but that Pirates team was historic...the WS, not so much. If the Sox had won more than once, he'd have a better shot.

Konerko's a "hall of guys i'd gladly have a beer with" but NOT "hall of fame" --- at least not til Vlad gets in at least 5 times!

Fragile? Paulie went on the DL in his career twice.

Talking about Cooperstown for Rizzo is absurd at this juncture. Way, way, way too early. I'm sure someone from the roster will wind up in the Hall. That's generally the way it goes (though Frank Thomas with the White Sox ends up being a bit of a reach).

Yeah, but he was quietly banged up a lot. He played through stuff but I'm sure those injuries were responsible for some of his wild swings in production.

I agree with this. Cubs would need another title and rizzo needs an mvp to be in consideration. As it stands right now I'd say Bryant has the inside track on rizzo. Bryant just need to sustain (easier said than done) has lace from last year.

Like him a lot, on websites where I have to use a number in my password, I use 14, but not a HOFer and really not even in the conversation. Rizzo needs to keep up the last 3 years for another 9 years with one of them being a MVP year (leading in some categories, not just finishing in the top 10) and then he'll be in.

He was. He also got hit in the face with a pitch and wanted to go down to first base.

That doesn't make him fragile. Brett Lawrie is fragile.

The historically dominant 2005 Chicago White Sox probably deserve to go in as a team.

They also ended the longest city World Series drought.

I shoulda saved "fragile" for Frank.

It just seemed like Paulie was hampered by various injuries throughout his career.

I would say no to Konerko. Very good player though. Maybe equivalent or a little better than Robin Ventura talent.

Ventura is closer to the Hall of Fame than Konerko simply because of the position he played.

I still miss bigfan getting mad when White Sox fans were like "Yeah, Konerko probably used steroids".

And for the record, I am closer to the Hall of Fame than my dog... but it doesn't really matter since we are so far away from being in the Hall of Fame that continuing this discussion is a bit pointless.

Ventura is closer simply because he was a much better player.

Don't know about that. He played a more premium position, but didn't really put up better numbers.
