Post subject: Why let Z off the hook?

I know this sounds cliche, but this is a big reason why people don't listen to SCR anymore.

How can they have Dr. Z on, whom they and every other host and listener have been calling out for weeks for ranking the Bears 32nd in the NFL before the season, and then completely let him off the hook when he denies picking them 32nd? He flat out said "I didn't rank them 32nd", and you just let it slide, until of course, AFTER the interview, when you point out that you have the magazine right in front of you. And then keep on firing on him.

SCR has the weakest interviewers in the business. It's the classic talk-tough until you have to confront someone one on one, then turn into jelly. How can anyone respect any of these guys' opinions on anyone, when you know they would never have the spine to confront someone face to face, or even just on the phone?

Weak. Weak. Weak.

Total softball interview. Even Larry King thought that was weak.

While I did not hear the interview, your general point is the reason for the downfall of the SCORE we all knew and loved. When they created this industry in Chicago they were the outsiders of the city's sports world. Print and TV media always looked down on them as unworthy. This created an underground type of mentality for the entire station typified by Murph's "never been in a locker room" slogan.

As with all successfull revolutionary ideas they eventually became the establishment. They wanted to be friends with the players instead of critic's of them.

I always use the North question to Pat Riley about shaving his head for a championship as an example of the old SCORE. It was entertaining, iconoclastic, inappropriate, stupid and great all at the same time. That kind of question would never be asked today.

Cannot disagree with you. Dr. Z came across as an arrogant jerk. It gets back to the hiring of sportswriters as hosts. They may need to talk to Z for a story in the future so they do not ask the tough questions. It sound just like that national am 1000 crap. Everybody agrees and respects one another blah blah blah.. The fans have more passion than they highly paid and almost always wrong national experts. Back to putting together christmas presents.

Z has been coming on the Score about once or twice a year for years now and everytime the guy comes across like such an arrogant asshole.

One time he just hung up on T dub and would pick up the phone when they called him back, even T dub called him out for being a jerk.

I was waiting for Mully to call him out on being so wrong, esepcially when he brought it up.

Was one of the weaker moments of the Score, when they had the chance to speak up as a "Fan" would have, thus actually being the FANS station.

It is the place for a Mike North Type who has nothing to lose by calling this guy out. Even North though wouldn't do that anymore

I'm no fan of Dr. Z, but he's right when he says he didn't rank the Bears as the worst team in the league prior to this season. As he explained in his original late summer interview with Buffone, he thought the Bears were better than several other teams, but would still finish with the NFL's worst record because they had a tougher schedule than the league's other weak teams. So in his view, "worst team" and "worst record" are not synonymous.

Of course, this doesn't change the fact that Z was still way off on his preseason prediction and that Mully's interview was shamelessly gladhanding....

Kenny Stabler was banging Z's wife in the 70's. Mully should have steered the conversation in that direction...
