So Matt Davidson seems to be hitting the ball well. It's too bad he's blocked by a high priced veteran on a go no where team. Seems that a rebuilding team would like to see if a young guy like that could be a long term answer at third base. Nah. Winning 78 games is a bigger priority.

Young guy? He's 26 years old and has had countless chances.

The "rebuilding" Sox should be giving chances to "young" guys like Erik Johnson and Matt Davidson!!!?!

It's a shame that young guys like Julio Franco don't have a shot at starting in today's league.

Davidson had one chance and immediately broke his foot rounding the bases. Plenty of players don't figure things out until their mid or late 20's. You would've told me Josh Donaldson was a bum not worthy of a roster spot right up until the day he wasn't.

Is Matt Davidson going to be Josh Donaldson? Unlikely. But there's no reason why a rebuilding them should not be playing him instead of Todd Frazier at 3rd.

He can't hit in the minor leagues. Why would you think he could succeed in the majors?

Is Davidson considered even competent at 3B? If he hits well in the minors why not let him DH. I am comfortable taking away ABs from Avi.

He hasn't hit well in the minors. His not terrible but not great career minor league slash line is .333/ .428/ .761, with 133 HR and 549 RBI over parts of 8 seasons.

His last two years at Charlotte;
.283 .362 .644 ( .199 batting avg)
.293 .375 .668 ( .203 batting avg)

Ouch, Babe

I believe he was voted top defensive third baseman in his league last season.

He can DH while a market for Frazier develops. There was not a market for players like Frazier this off season. FA with his skill set weren't getting offers.

Davidson slashed .268/.349/.444 last year at Charlotte, I dont know where Frank got those numbers. More importantly, if we are scouting the stat line, his strikeout numbers are finally started to subside. Really you compare his Charlotte numbers last year before he was called up (and promptly injured) he had a year very similar to his last for the Diamondbacks org.

Also he's still 25 going into his age 26 season, so he's really not even that old to be making his major league debut. He's almost two years younger than Tyler Saladino, someone I think we are all happy to see get his shot this year.

I think that award he received overstates his defensive abilities but he can probably be league average there, which is about what Frazier is. If they really wont trade Todd Frazier (this is fucking stupid and upsets me greatly, btw) what they should do is play Davison at 3rd, Frazier at 1st and Abreu at DH then leave Avi to trip over his shoelaces in the OF or rot on the bench. They wont do that because Garcia is an ego thing for this front office and they'll give him another 1000 PA's before they even think about giving up on him.

Frazier is a good soldier. He won't get traded unless he begins disrupting the clubhouse like Sale and Eaton did. Frazier will be re-signed with the justification being he'll mentor the young players.

I hope he gets a chance so all you geniuses can cry about how much he sucks when he's striking out 50% of the time and batting .190 with a homer every two weeks.

In a perfect world Frazier's worst season is Davidson's upside. It's ridiculous to be concerned with whether this bum gets another chance.

Then he does his part to better the Sox draft position in 2018.

You act like this guy has been given a bunch of chances already like Avi. He got his first shot with the MLB club last year.

This year is going to suck. There really is no way to get around that fact. Adding suck won't make it suck more.

he's a lottery ticket. when you find a lottery ticket in the street, do you scratch the silvery crap off to see if it is a winner or do you just throw it away?

Stop. I've posted lots of questions to him that he has ignored. Get the whole story before you decide to chime in.

Frazier also hit 40 HRs. I don't think Davidson has even hit 30 in a full year. Plus, Hawk isn't going to leave Stone to call an inning by himself to check on Matt Davidson!

He's 26 years old! This isn't the steroids era. Maybe you haven't noticed but the superstars are getting younger. That's the way it always was before guys started loading up. He's in the prime of his career and he can scarcely hit his way out of AAA.

As for putting him there to suck for draft choices, that's great for the guy who is turning the TV off for three years. I'm actually going to the games and I'd like to see a minimal level of competence.
