In no way reliable but at least twice I picked up 670 out here in the middle of the night in my car. For only a very short time.

Nighttime is different though as the signals can bounce through the ionosphere and reach incredible distances when you're a Clear Channel station. You can be in the middle of Nebraska and possibly get Les because of that.

Yeah, it's probably tough to hold down 670 in Pittsburgh when 660 out of New York is right next door at 50,000 watts of its own. The Chicago clear channels get their best coverage south and west, of course.

What's your most distant reception? I got CBC Radio out of Calgary once.

The Score's signal has a nice reach, so far

The nighttime signal was a reason WMVP was awful as a home for the Sox. The games would be at night and WMVP would have to power down the transmitter as otherwise the westward reach of their signal would interfere with a Class A from Seattle.

You would struggle to pick them up in Valpo at that point. West Laf was out of the question

I got 720 crystal clear on my drive to Toronto after passing Windsor. The Cubs were playing on the West Coast so it was a savior driving through barren farmland.

I can't remember as it was long ago but I got one of the AMs out Chicago in North or South Dakota at night.

Many moons ago I could pick up 670, 720, & 780 with little problem iirc out in Fort Wayne.

They must be pretty bad farmers in Canada if their farmland is barren

 I've never made such a complaint. I'm confident regarding my opinions on certain eras of basketball. I'm not gonna argue with you about Kawhi Leonard or Boogie Cousins. I have little idea.

But I do know the NBA is driven by highlights and star players in a way where the appreciation of their feats are often seen as the end rather than as a means to achieve such. And there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, it probably makes more sense. Sports really are entertainment. It's kind of silly that Jose Quintana can ruin 10 or 12 days a year for me. But the truth is, he can, he has, and he will. It would actually be nice if I could just be satisfied by watching 26 year old Matt Davidson hit a 420 foot homer once every two weeks or so.

The people you're describing are children and casual fans. Actual NBA fans care about the results. If what you said is true Blake Griffin would get a lot more respect around the league.

Sports fans care about the results. NBA fans get oddly burrito about players and GMs.

Hard to take a Cub fan serious when they accuse other sports fans of getting oddly burrito about GMs.

This thread had potential this morning when I was drinking my coffee and opening my mail. Ended up disappointing, but oh well...

Either way, NBA fans need to acknowledge that the NBA's regular season product is depressing (and I'm an NBA fan - in the playoffs). As much fun as it is to watch the triple post offense run at half speed while two defenders bitch at the refs, I would still rather finish season 4 of Modern Family. The NBA playoffs might be the best event in all of sports (seriously), but the regular season does suck balls. When you have to play lame jock jams to try to get the crowd to acknowledge that their team is on defense, it's just not that exciting. The season is too long, the game is too repetitive, and the fans at the games are corporate shills from out of town who are more focused on banging a sales rep than whether Rajon Rondo can successfully defend a pick and roll.

It's not depressing at all. It's a bit too long but that's true of hockey and baseball too.

Every year, I watch more NBA playoff games than regular season games. The last game I watched was weeks ago.

I don't know about hockey because it's just terrible.

With baseball, I disagree... I mean, it would appear that way at first blush, but it doesn't get old like basketball. I have a theory as to why...

Basketball is a game of averages. They don't express their numbers in totals... they express it in PPG, RPB, APG...

But baseball is more of an aggregate game. Individuals are chasing season total numbers. It's much more climactic to say "he needs two more home runs to break the record" than it is to say "he needs to maintain an average of 12 assists per game for the next week to keep his lead!"

That's probably just one thing. I don't know. I've been drinking.

Not really trying to be combative here, but that doesn't make any sense. You're basically just saying you like baseball more. That's fine. But get the fuck outta here with saying basketball is too long and repetitive but baseball isn't. Baseball is the longest and most repetitive game by a fairly wide margin.

First, stop prefacing by saying you're not combative. We all know you are, and Caller Bob really shown a spotlight on it.

Second, I don't know about that. Honestly, I don't care. I go back and forth on what sport I like, and I have no emotional attachment to any of them. But I will say that baseball lends itself to a long season. It's a sport that can't even be properly sorted without a large sample size. Basketball can. We all know in December who is going to compete for a championship, and the rest of the year is just filler (and half the league makes the playoffs). With baseball, we have no idea, so every game really does matter, and once a team makes the playoffs, they have a decent shot. That's not true in basketball.

Did you know in December the Houston Rockets were going to compete for a championship this year? Because nobody else did.

They're not going to.

By any measure, they are one of the 4 best teams in the NBA. I don't think they will win the championship, but it's silly to say they won't be competing for it.

You're making my point. You're saying they're one of the 4 best teams in the NBA, and you still know they won't truly compete. It's gonna be the Warriors, the Spurs, or the Cavs.

In baseball, every team who makes the playoffs has a shot (and making the playoffs is much harder).

Ita probably gonna be the Warriors and the Cavs. But you and Rick are only discounting the Rockets because you guys don't watch the NBA regular season. It took me awhile to believe, but they're really damn good this year. And one way to negate the advantage you mention superior NBA teams have is with three point shooting. Well, a team that jacks literally 40 3 attempts a game and shoots them well has as good a chance as anyone to pull off a major upset.
