Since you need a black American example of this, Kawhi Leonard does too. You're not gonna become the best defensive player ever without busting your ass every night.

Russell Westbrook plays pretty hard too.

How about we just stick to Cubs threads, huh, Matches?

Sheeeeeet.

Just wait till I get up enough confidence to start posting my Hockey thoughts. Then like the Beatnuts say, there will be "No Escapin' This" poster.

I won't read them, but I wish you well.

NBA fans are funny. I can't appreciate a league where 4 teams are the only serious contenders for a title and you play months and months to get to that. Further imagine you are a fan of the other teams. That must be depressing as hell that lottery after lottery you can't even help your chances. Hell you can be a super fan of three NBA teams and not have a shot. Can't say that about another league/sport.

Yeah... at the beginning I thought the show had a lot of promise, but it hasn't materialized.

95%: basketball/laughing at unfunny things/Goff's kid/Dan's food fetish/bad calls/bad interviews/rape talk.

I don't think its unlistenable, but its surprisingly stale and uninspired.

Pretty much this. It is kind of surprising when you think about it. Dan purports to expect excellence in sports teams, other journalists and even his kids. Yet he mails it in on his job for the last 10 years and into the future.

Look, forget everything we've even talked about and just envision an NBA game. There is very little emotion from the fans or the team (regular season). It's really inarguable. They play lame-ass songs and chants of "defense" over the loudspeakers to get people to give a shit. It's not a problem with basketball - it's a problem with the format of the NBA. But as long as they make money, they won't care. I watch sports to root my ass off for my team.

you don't think it's the same in baseball ? in the playoffs fans are up cheering when the count is 3-2....is anyone cheering for a walk in the regular season ?

Bernstein always complains about why didn't they ask him this or that? Well why doesn't Dan ask them? What was the toughest question Dan ever asked someone? I know he had Kareem on to talk about his cancer charity and the jag brought up Alford ..what the fuck! Also if he brings up Eric Musselman again I will shove my penis in his eye

The problem with this show is that Jason just isn't very smart. He's fine just yucking it up or BS-ing about games, but when he tries to do "REALLY.SMART.RADIO" with Danny he just can't pull it off. Terry would just clam up and say "yep" all afternoon, but not Jason. I don't need to be lectured to by someone who spent one year at SIU.

Yeah, Goff regularly finds himself out over his skis when he's trying to expound on some social or political issue. You can actually plot him getting into a feedback loop of "you know" and "right there for you" from which Dan needs to rescue him.

Today, they are arguing that a college degree has no value. This is not hyperbole, they are dead serious.

He'll argue that, but you just know little Bernstein has no choice in the matter when he's done with high school. He'll be told he has to go.

It's a statistical fact...the numbers show a direct correlation between degree levels and future salaries. Now if you want to get into the argument of college degree's being overrated, I'll entertain that but that's not how the hiring world in "Corporate America" see's it.

they are doing the NBA draft eligibility rules are dumb show... again... although at least its the first time as B&G they are doing this show... still sucks.

Bernstein started one segment ranting about how players are better off in the NBA sooner so they dont learn bad habits from college coaches who only care about winning and not player development.... then ended the next segment talking about how the NBA wants to keep the system as is because it's a free feeder league.... so NBA is ok with the free feeder league even though the coaching received will have to be "undone" by NBA coaches?? pick a lane

Also, take it with an EXTREME grain of salt, when an SIU dropout tells you college is "overrated'.

Well, he is doing pretty alright for himself despite dropping out, so I can see where he's coming from.

Maybe, but you've called him a SIU dropout multiple times now, implying that he's a failure or dumb or something. He's clearly been successful overall in his career, so far.

Mike North dropped out of high school, yet pulled down 6 figures for years. Clearly a Mensa candidate.

His point is you're using anecdotes who represent outliers and are not in line with the overall data.

He's right in a sense. For the one-and-done type players the argument that they receive a scholarship in return for their "services" is complete nonsense. What he ignores, however, is that for the overwhelming majority of college athletes free tuition and a college degree is a big deal.

If I'm a college player and can go pro before finishing my degree I do so for a few reasons.

1; that extra year in college and not in the pros represents lost income that I can never make back for that year.
2: I can blow my knee out and never go pro during that extra year in college. Then I'm screwed
3: I will make more in year 1 of being a pro than the entire 4 year value of my scholarship and can always go back to finish the degree on my own dime and still come out ahead from a financial perspective. Heck, I'd be doing distance learning from my school after going pro if I were in that situation. Plenty of athletes have done this and gotten their degree.

Goff has shown no improvement as a host. Whether he is incapable of improving or unwilling to work at his craft not sure. It's clear he has a long way to go though.

February ratings come out tomorrow. We'll see if The People agree that this show (and the station's new lineup as a whole) is terrible.

On your last point, I thought I heard ot read somewhere that schools do honor the scholarship in those instances so they can still go for free.

Aren't February ratings usually the lowest?

Even "about the same" would be bad, IMO. They performed poorly at the end of the year relative to other Top 10 market sports talkers, and this time around they don't have the excuse of NFL playoff contention/runs for most of the top markets (Washington, Dallas, Atlanta, etc.). Of course they can be doing well in key demos--and of course they have the Cubs right around the corner--but I think another month of San Francisco's KNBR having (estimated) more live listeners than WSCR despite The Score servicing a listening market larger by 1.5 million sets of ears, isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of the station's purely talent-driven content.
