Aren't February ratings usually the lowest?

"Holiday," which is roughly the last three weeks of December, is typically the worst book for everyone but 93.9, but February is usually pretty bad for sports talk, yeah.

I think so. But still, it's about how they stack up to other stations in other markets operating under the same, or similar, circumstances. That pretty much isolates the talent and their day-to-day content.

I can't imagine anyone cares what the Score's ratings are in relation to KNBR when they're selling the Cubs and the CBS Chicago cluster.

We're talking about listeners, though, not salespeople. Assuming that there are similar distributions of people willing to seek out sports-talk content in many of the top markets, would you agree that it is desirable to have talent producing content that those people will seek out at higher rates, rather than lower ones?

Yeah, but none of that matters because the Score has the Cubs. Not sports talk, but WGN got away with having human jars of mayonnaise like Steve Cochran and John Williams in afternoon drive because they had the Cubs.

That's true. However, I'm interested in knowing whether more listeners, than just people on this board, have been turned off by the content the station's talent has been producing, and I think flat and underperformance in the ratings relative to other markets might be indicative of that.

I don't expect Mitch to hit the panic button, or really anything of substance to come of it, I just take some comfort (and joy) in knowing that the critiques of the station and its content by MANY on this board are not occurring in a vacuum, that other people are hearing what we hear and not liking it.

you can always compare it historically to the same time slot on the same station. i don't know if ratings take into account online listeners. but thats a number you can actually monitor.

Prediction: they drop from a 2.6 to a 2.3 and everyone starts hootin' and hollerin' about how much this proves the audience has rejected Parkins and Dan & Jason's Racism & Out-of-Town Basketball Revue.

After what kind of ratings performance does it become permissible to glean a rift between the station's talent/content and the sports-talk consuming fan?

You've rejected a relativistic review of ratings with other sports talkers in other major markets (well, not really, you just started talking about ad sales), and here you seem to preemptively mock anyone who would point to an overall ratings dip in-market as indicative of anything talent-based. So what would you need to see to affirm the above?

None of it matters. No one at the station cares what listeners think.

...so? That doesn't stop us from discussing and dissecting things here, are you arguing it should?

Got to say, I'm puzzled by your fatalism here, you usually love talking about the radio business and opining on the merits of shows and individual hosts, but now it's a useless exercise?

I think it was just a bunch of little things. I've given up on this station being any fun to listen to ever again.

I've had the show on three different times today. I keep trying to give it a chance. But they got pissed about texts regarding Goff saying "University of Indiana". And it devolved into self righteousness from there.

Is Colin Kaepernick being blackballed? That's where I shut it off. I am not uncomfortable with that conversation. I just don't give a crap about it. Nor did I care about whether he stands during the National Anthem. We had an incredible weekend of NCAA basketball, a few Bulls items, plenty of good Hawks stuff, and baseball over all the place. Do I care about an out of market QB in March who took a social stance? Not really.....

Trash show. Jason is horrifyingly bad at radio. The midday show was bad and this afternoon show is somehow worse. God help me, but I've had ESPN on more often WSCR.

When you've lost Hank Scorpio, you've lost the target audience.

There is some irony to Goff correcting every listener who says Kaepernick got released when he, of all people, should know what its like to quit-before-you-get-fired.

Salsa is the story Goff gives. But there had to be more to it. I think they got sick of his crazy ass and used salsa as the excuse to finally launch him. The Score is a different place. Most stations don't put up with weird, dumb and crazy.

As in the music or the condiment?
