Royko seemed more real even though he had many columns with made up characters in them.

That's really tough...Royko on the writing Breslin on telling a story...used to love Royko writing Cub players throwing their jocks at Skippy when he was a bat boy :lol:Also I read Mike every day

I liked Royko as well and really enjoy John Kass these days.

Jimmy, working at a newspaper back in the day, I can tell you some columnists will take liberties with characters they interject into their work... not all but some. I knew a columnist whose funniest buddy was a composite of three different guys and it worked very well for him.

Kass rarely seemed to enjoy anything, nor take anything but whatever the current populist opinion is. And I wanted to like him

Kass is a talented writer, but he's pretty conservative. He lost me when he became a soccer fan.

Royko liked to brag about how he ran Breslin out of Chicago when they syndicated his column here.

John Kass isn't really a human being. In reality, he is a human-shaped balloon filled with sour stomach gas. Every morning, the Tribune pokes him with a long needle and sprays some of the hot stinky gas onto a page, and a new column appears.

Spot on with the JORR reference.

This is why Nas and I are trying to develop a lifestyle site with JORR as the lead columnist.
