I'm curious but not overly excited. I love the books and this is supposedly more of a re-imagining.

I think that Wizard and Glass is the best thing Stephen King ever wrote. Then he fucked the ending of this series, pretty much like he fucks up the ending to every novel he writes. He could use a closer.

With that in mind, I'm pretty excited about this movie.

Yeah, he cant write an ending to save his life. That's why I loved that scene in Stand By Me when they make fun of the ending of the puke story. I cant remember if that was in the book or not but its totally a jab at King. The worst is Under the Dome, nothing can ever be as bad as that one.

Word is this is the next cycle of Roland's after he was placed back in the desert at the end of book 7.

Eddie and Susannah aren't in this movie but are scheduled for the second and third if they get made.

Obviously you never read Rose Madder. That was the end of my King phase.

my theory on why he's always been bad at endings is that his approach to writing is basically "just write". when you write a story, you should think of it backwards. come up with the ending first and then go back. when i was learning the screenwriting trade, i was taught to make sure act 3 was pristine, then go back and change act 1. but always make sure you have a strong ending. of course, you should have a strong beginning too.

not every king ending is bad but when it is...it's memorably bad.

You know that universe-threatening evil that has been present in multiple stories?

We have the kid from Insomnia erase him!

Brilliant, right?

This series has always puzzled me. Everyone says it is great, but I tried reading the first book a couple times and could never get past the first 50 pages or so before calling it quits.

I guess in that sense, for me, the Dark Tower equals The Wire.

Yeah the first book is a bit stilted and strange.

I think it improves dramatically in books 2 and 3 and reaches its apex in book 4.

very excited for this. for all the people upset that it doesnt follow the exact storyline, id suggest to look at as another trip around the wheel after a reset. theres enough similar and "twinners" to keep it the same story but just happens a little differently this time.

I'd love a Talisman and a Black House movie.

Jack Sawyer should've been involved in the Dark Tower proper series.

Instead bring in the damn kid from Insomnia. :x

Yep with you 100%

Loved the Talisman, just saw a reboot of IT is coming out soon.
Wish someone would redo The Stand also.

But I am pretty stoked to see Gunslinger, really enjoyed those books. Shit if Game of Thrones can be this big of a hit you have at least 6 seasons of the Gunslinger.

I'm still meh. The loading the gun in mid air thing looked like something out of that shitty Angelina Jolie movie. It should have been an HBO/Netflix/Prime series and it should have been based on the books rather than a sequel to the books. I am not optimistic.

King supposedly loves it which scares me because the only adaptation he hated was The Shining.

I've heard that but a re-imagined series isn't what I want. You have 7 books and thousands of pages worth of source material and they decided "Let's make a sequel so that we can do what we want". Let's take away arguably the best character (Eddie) and force it all into a subpar movie. I also don't think the series will happen because this is gonna tank...hard.

Also the promotional material is bullshit. "One man is sworn to protect it" "One man is sworn to destroy it". Roland never planned on saving the tower. He just wanted to see it and climb to the top. He wasn't just a generic 'good guy in a western'.

Sorry, I'm shitting all over it. I'm gonna see it but I don't have to be happy about it.

Right but that was in the final 5% of his quest. I would also argue that without Jake, Suze, Oy and Eddie, he wouldn't have made the side trip to stop the breakers. He would have been so laser focused on getting to the tower that he would have bypassed the Devar Toi. His new ka tet made him more human and acted as his moral compass.

Stephen King has previously hinted that The Dark Tower movie is actually a sequel to the novels rather than a direct adaptation. In a new interview with IGN, director Nik Arcel said “it is, in fact, a continuation. It is a canon continuation. That’s exactly what we intended and what Stephen King has signed off on.”
