No idea how imminent this is, but I do understand why they are doing it.

Its official! 6y $24m

It'll be very difficult for this deal to be a bad one for the Sox.

Great move! This is a clear sign the Sox believe he's going to be a star.

If he just plays decent defense, runs the bases well and and keeps the OBP over .270 it's a good deal. If he excels at any phase it'll be a steal.

This is a good deal, even if he hits the lower end of his projections, the reasonable contract will make him movable, should another prospect in the pipeline prove to be better(see the Starlin Castro situation). It's really a "win/win"(lol corporate douche cliche) for both sides.

Good move by the White Sox. Still a few more to go.

Probably. If you put that kind of money on the table a lot of poor people would take it.

Recently married and just had a daughter. He can buy a nice house, get his wife a nice car and she doesn't have to work, kid can go to private school and the money will be there for college, who knows his debt situation...it makes a lot sense really. He has locked in a comfortable lifestyle for the remainder of his life if he doesn't just blow the money, if he can land another big contract at age 31 he'll probably never have to work again after baseball.

Hopefully it'll help him as a ballplayer, the pressure is off a little bit he can relax and just play.

Agent is just fine, how much money do you really think he gave up? He was under team control for 6 more years anyways. He probably locked himself into a 6 year deal promising 85 cents on the dollar to set himself up for life.

The next 3 years he was probably going to make 1.6 million. Now he is getting 12 million for those years.

America-he is 23, he hits free agency at age 28/29.

I consider this a great move since he will be the next Gordon Beckham.

You know they've approached Rodon, I wonder how far those talks have gone. My guess is nowhere fast.

If Rodon doesn't take a significant step forward this season, he would be wise to sign an offer and the Sox might be just as wise to pull their offer.

Boy that was a smart move in 2015, having him skip AA, rushing him to the bigs and burning a year of service time. All to win 76 games instead of 73.

Ah, that explains it. Better deal for the sox but I don't know how any player can pass it up. Any idea what the options are for?

I don't know the breakdown but supposedly another $25 million+ over the two years.

If they offered him double what they offered Anderson I'm not sure he'd take it.

Both sides of town will be dealing with Boras issues in the next few years.

They will all say that they control the negotiation.

An OBP of .270 is abysmal. To make a comparison, future HOF'er Gordon beckham had an OBP of .303
