I was gonna say but figured it wasn't worth the effort. I just assumed he was hoping for a .270 BA, and we all know Anderson barely takes walks.

Hopefully he can hit higher than the .229 that World Series Cog David Ross put up last season.

Let's hope, considering he will be averaging four million dollars a year in salary, opposed to Ross' 2.2 million a year.

Yes, but Ross has an OBP of .338 last year. That's MVP material.

For sure. Ross is clearly the oldest and best backup catcher ever not to win the World Series MVP.

For $4m a year he can be pretty bad but still not hold negative value because of his contract. You missed the point.

If he had an OBP of .270, he would have the 2nd lowest OBP in the league last year of a player with 400 or more plate appearances. There's no value in that even if he's playing for free.

Depends on defense, baserunning and power numbers. A wizard SS can be an offensive black hole and still be valuable...twice Andrelton Simmons has posted sub 300 OBP's with dogshit baserunning and both times he's been one of the best SS in the game. Anderson is unlikely to be the defender Simmons is, but his contact skills and baserunning chops are on a different planet than Simmons'.

$4m a year, which is basically free.

Got any other dumb baseball thoughts you want to get off your chest?

He'll be the Chris Sale of shortstops halfway through that contract, underpaid star that can't sniff the post season.

This is such a team friendly deal that you just have to stop and applaud Hahn for doing this.

Because he did the same thing with Sale, Eaton and Quintana which led to some of the shittiest baseball on the Southside in years. Gotta do more than sign players already under team control anyways.

Right. I'm happy about the deal but what are the odds this just winds up being another guy ranking on trade value lists because of his contract while the team around him is dogshit?

Probably. If you put that kind of money on the table a lot of poor people would take it.

Agent is just fine, how much money do you really think he gave up? He was under team control for 6 more years anyways. He probably locked himself into a 6 year deal promising 85 cents on the dollar to set himself up for life.

The next 3 years he was probably going to make 1.6 million. Now he is getting 12 million for those years.

America-he is 23, he hits free agency at age 28/29.

IF he's as good as MANY expect he could have gotten paid more than $25M throughout his arbitration years and he could definitely get paid more than $25M his first 2 years as a free agent.

He could also blow out his knee tomorrow. That money isn't going to break down in the bank.

It would still be a great deal for the Sox.

Reinsdorf will likely be dead before he has to pay any real money. JR LOVES backloaded deals.

That is an anti-semetic statement, according to Barry Rozner.

I would have though Todd Frazier would have be paid fairly well in arb years with his home run/RBI counts, his 3 years were valued at 3, 7, and 12. All of the real value in that contract exists in the option years.

Even Bryce Harper hasn't been worth 25M in an arb year. He might next year, but in 3 years he may be worth 25M. Teams really get to screw the young guys.

Look at the history of the Sox and the Bulls. JR loves the backloaded deals. That is his #1 go to contract negotiation move (other than trying to negotiate directly with a player even when represented by an agent, which should have been a move that resulted in an ARDC beef by an unhappy agent).

We were looking for winning titles. Jerry is undefeated in championship series.

Hadn't thought about this before, but Chicago has been pretty good at sealing the deal. I believe in my life the only title loses have been the Rex superbowl and the Hawks/Pens final.

Otherwise
1SB
3 cups,
2 world series
6 NBA titles.

12-2, not too shabby

I like players who bet on themselves and WANT to go to free agency, because they believe they will get MUCH MORE. A guy who is willing to take such a team friendly deal, is showing that he desperately wants the financial security and doesn't feel confident that he will be a star player in the future that could get much more. But if he does become a star player, Kudos to Hahn for getting him so cheaply.
