All this talk about Dahl but nobody brought up "Tonsilgate" yet???

Dahl's assistant Marcus,a big lovable black kid had trouble breathing and it was determined his tonsils needed to be removed. He was afraid of surgery but Steve & Garry convinced him there was nothing to worry about. Well of course the poor kid ended up dead due to not coming out of the surgery well.

All I can say about "Dalls & Meirs" is nobody until some early Boers & Bernstein ever made me laugh harder. Those Chicago Eddie and Wally bits were priceless.

Stern stole entire bits from Dahl as well. Being the voice of God. The black reporter in a helicopter bit that's in Private Parts.

The homo club.

Stern didn't just borrow from Dahl, he stole whole bits unimproved in any way.

I didn't believe it either back in the day. Dahl would complain and I thought it was typical radio wars schtick. Then I heard Stern doing the exact same thing as Dahl. Now, you may say that two great comedic minds could come up with similar stuff. I was willing to believe that for a while...until I heard Stern call the Bijou. Now, explain to me how a New York person would find out about a small gay porn theater in Chicago that recorded funny descriptions of the movies on their phone message?

Anyway, you don't need to investigate that deeply. There is an unauthorized biography of Stern that details that Stern and some other jock used to listen to Dahl together back in his Detroit days.

I loved shock jocks like Dahl, Mancow and Stern. That was was radio at it's best, for me at least. You literally had no idea what off the wall shit they would do or say. What insensitive bit they would do that made you damn near drive off the road laughing.

Now today, we got the beta cuck burrito males, doing there SJW bit against insensitivity. Either radio listeners or the radio executives lost their fucking balls in the past twenty years.

Maybe stuttering John or Gary heard the Dahl Bijou theater bit and presented it as their idea, I just don't see the similarities between Dahl n Stern..has Dahl ever had a filthy mouth? Lesbians? Great guests~ interviews? Smallest dick contests? Porn stars? Etc. I heard Howard say years ago his biggest influence was Petey Green, the guy became a DJ in prison and is recognized as the first " shock jock" in the 60's. The black traffic reporter was one more f the lamest bits ever conceived, if Dahl was so great why didn't he ever hit every market in America n Canada like Stern?

I was on his show once trying to win a contest when I was about 14. They interviewed me for about 10 minutes asking if I kept porn magazines under my bed.

People at our local grocery store heard it and told my Mom about it.

They weren't that similar. Stern was a lesser version of Dahl. Yes, Dahl had all those things.

Dahl never hit the big time because he was a wild, partying drunk. Stern just pretended to be wild.

I'll save it for when Dahl comes on the podcast. Or Meier.

Stern had bits in addition to the ones he stole but there is no denying he stole. It really isn't even a question as there is first person evidence as well as all sorts of circumstantial evidence.

Stern was laser focused on radio. Dahl was an alcoholic who had trouble making it into the studio on time most days. He literally would phone in the first half hour. Every Friday he would start drinking in the studio under the guise of Aloha Friday. Also, NY stations not only have the biggest local market, they broadcast to Philadelphia and large, east coast secondary cities. Dahl had a bit of a franchise run with Milwaukee and Detroit but the population centers are so much more different

Steve Dahl is my favorite radio guy of all time. OF ALL TIME.

But, I think he was pretty much done by 1990. I did see his 20 Years in the Can show at The Vic. It was pretty bad. I never liked the parody songs. I thought that was the worst part of his show.

But, he was hilarious when I listened from about 1983-1990. I can't listen today. I check in every once in a while but he's really turned into Wally Phillips, ironically.

The early parody songs were great- "Oh Wally", "Ayatollah", and "Another Kid In The Crawl".

Eh, those three were OK to hear one time. I also wasn't a big fan of the Gary Dotson trial transcripts.

But, even still, loved that show and would run home from school to go to my room to listen to it since my parents told me I couldn't.

It's a splash on, Governor.

I still can hear the bit in my mind where he played Gary Dotson as an interior designer of jail cells...using glass block around the commode in case of stains.

I started listening to Dahl as a sixth grader. I'd get home from football practice and he would still be on. I'd take a bath while listening to the show.

I listened all through my developing years. It was definitely an adult show. He would talk about topics with which I had no familiarity.

I brought his first tribute tape with me to Rome. Me and quite a few other guys would sit in the dorm room guzzling corner store wine and listening to the stuff.

Dahl created a passion for radio for me. I never followed up on it but I really retained a love of the medium even to this day. It pains me to hear him now talk about being a member of a country club. The jump the shark moment was probably that sappy song about Comiskey Park where he said sorry for all the things that made him funny, interesting and cool.

For me,the most insane Dahl moment is when I stood next to his speaker the whole concert at the "Nickel Bag" on River Road. My ears hurt for a long time after that.
