I still don't want to trade Baez, but I'll give you this jimmy...

This Happ kid sure looks the part up at the plate. Solid approach and lots of hard contact so far.

Revisionist history. The Cubs single best player in the organization was Kris Bryant. He was sent to the minor leagues. Happ clearly seems to be MLB ready, but blocked. This tends to happen from time to time.

This particular time, the gaming of Happ on his service time just happens to be a byproduct of having no room for him on the major league roster...but you Sox trolls already know that.

Indignation falls in Fake News. Short of a win at all costs JimmyPasta, I would say MANY agreed with the decision to hold him for an extra year. I don't recall there being a strong group that actually believed he needed more seasoning.

Bryant was "blocked" by the great Mike Olt. If not for that one inside fastball that broke his hand, Olt may still be at third while Bryant gets more reps in the minors. Ironically, the broken hand happened on the exact day (close to it) where the Cubs gained an extra year of control over Bryant.

OF COURSE I'm kidding....but I don't care what anyone says....the Cubs did the exact right thing. Bryant doesn't seem to be holding a grudge (ROY, MVP). I think having him in the fold for an extra year is pretty damn smart. I know Bryant and his agent filed a grievance, and I get that....but that is more to support the players association and a part of the COLLECTIVE bargaining agreement they NOW don't like.

Go Cubs!

In 2015, KB played in 151 games; 2016 he did 155. Considering how Maddon rests players, they got close to the same number of games out of him still.

The Cubs made the best move for the organization, and are making sure Bryant is happy at the same. Smart moves all around.

C'mon dolphin. I know he's a Cub and all but he's probably one of the best infielder defenders you've ever seen.

Of course, he's a Cub! I also just learned in the thread above that Heyward is the best right fielder in all of baseball.

You may not want to admit it, but those two are great defensive ball players.

There's no disputing that.
Saying they are great defensive ballplayers is a LOT different than saying one is the best infielder we have ever seen, and one is the best right fielder in the game.

I wont deny the first part. The second part is laughable.

Where does Heyward check in on the Frank Costanza top 25 defensive RFs?

And in general, what do you think of Javy Baez as a defender?

Frank is an idiot. Heyward is the best/top 2/3 defensive right fielder in the game. There are many metrics that show this, and the eye test can only concur.

If Happ's major league career is only 20% as good as Moncada's Hall of Fame career is, the Cubs should be happy.

Not sure how good this Happ kid is but they would be stupid to trade Baez.

I am only going off of what was said. That Baez is "one of the best infielders we have ever seen" which is not true at this point. The original quote was not "best OF glove" or "best defensive right fielder." The quote was "best right fielder in baseball." That means offense and defense, which makes my statement true and you looking like the idiot.

The trade which I think they would have made for Baez is if they could have pried Jose Fernandez from the Marlins. The Marlins could have rebuilt around Baez, would have gotten another couple of pieces as well, and the Cubs would have had Fernandez until he hit free agency and a place to slot Happ in at midseason this year.

Then Fernandez had to go and get himself killed, and created this logjam at 2B. Asshole.

Fair enough. I read it as defensive only, but I can see the rationale you are using in the subsequent explanation.

So if Baez is the best infielder where does that leave Sandberg in his record breaking season at 2nd for fewest errors?

And it may be splitting hairs, but I was not about to give the benefit of the doubt for "best defensive RF" when 10 words prior somebody was truthfully trying to pin Baez as an all time great defender.

I was the one who said "Baez is one of the best defensive infielders you've ever seen." I started watching MLB in 1984 and in that time, Baez is right up there as infield glove with anyone else in that time frame.

Are you saying that's an absurd statement?
