My experience 25 years ago was Logan was the worst winter weather delays.

I like Chicago, how the winters are terrible and people care too much about sports, but I don't like that the food is good, the roads are logical, and people, well, they're racist, but they could be more racist. I think I shall go to Boston.

It's a slippery slope though. We didn't go from suits and ties to sweatpants and shower shoes without some stops in between.

 what? I'm in a suit right now and seriously plan to exchange this suffocating shit for some freshly washed sweats and a t shirt in about 20 minutes. Trust me if I boarded a plane afterwards no one is going to hold their noses. I don't do shower shoes. If you're implying that someone smells like ass when wearing sweats and shower shoes then the same could be said of people in business clothes, thought it'd be discordant. It's all about the hygiene and state of your clothes to me.

No, I mean dress and behavior on flights have simultaneously gotten more and more casual.

So has everything. I have a picture of an old game at Wrigley on my wall right now and everyone is wearing dresses and suits with ties and hats. What's the point man?

The point is you're stuck in an airplane for two hours plus with a bunch of fucking slobs. The answer isn't to go full slob yourself. When people dress casually they have a tendency to act casually. And if you're wearing pajamas the next step is clipping your toenails. Is it really hard to wear slacks and a sport coat for a few hours and wait until you deplane to act like a savage?

If I'm going to sit with these same slack jawed idiots for 3+ hours at a baseball game, with easier access to booze mind you, shouldn't people, given your reasoning, dress formally so as not to act casually?
I mean shit, I saw FavreFan almost get into a fight with the other guy at that Sox game we went to a few years back. Would he have not been screaming profanity with a tie on?

Sorry, I'm originally from Cal City, so I gotta show some love to a fellow south side guy. Joe's got some great thoughts on life mixed with bad political thoughts and archaic baseball thoughts.

Why can't people be bothered to learn to be comfortable in a jacket and tie? Not everything has to be the 100% absolute easiest all the time.

No, she made a bit of money and quit. I'm sure the hundreds of hours of work was worth the two grand it netted her.

I don't know where you're buying your shit, but a properly-sized shirt under a jacket is perfectly comfortable. Maybe it's the modern style of extreme slim-fit and people not willing to buy a size or two up to fit their body properly.

One thing I've never heard anyone successfully answer is what Darkside mentioned earlier. Why is an airplane different than anywhere else? Do people dress up to ride the rides at Great America?

I think our whole culture is fucked up with respect to our collective aversion to dressing even somewhat formally except on the rarest, most formal of occasions (and even then, some assholes still try to work in a pair of sneakers). It shouldn't take a court date, wedding or funeral for you to put on some dress slacks and a nice shirt. Even the head of IT at the fucking White House was bitching about having to wear a jacket and tie around the President (then Obama, don't get too worked up).

So for me, it's not just about going on a plane. Though I will say that a roller coaster is a glorified train designed to make snot nosed kids yak up their nachos. A commercial airliner is a wonder of human engineering that places everyone on board and in its path a dick hair away from a catastrophic and fiery death. The least you could do is attempt to look as put together as a dressed down Tony Soprano.

Flying used to be different, it used to be an experience. Didn't matter if it was for business or pleasure, you got a good meal, possibly a drink and were treated like you were somebody. Now it's just like anything else, it's all about money. Move as many people as quick as you can clean the plane, turn around and do it again. Some Airlines even charge you to carry on a bag or a purse. It's ridiculous.

I dont wear "shower shoes" on a plane, but there is simply no reason for me to wear anything more than jeans and a tshirt.

You do that then the next logical step is trying to openly clean your ears using a dildo with the functionality of a Q-Tip.

Flying was also the equivalent of a mortgage payment in the 1960's, so I'm not quite sure about the "good old days".

I understand why flying has become what it has. That said while sport coats is a bit much some of what I see is deplorable.

I think some of the behaviors you see on planes bear that out.

I've answered it many times. On a plane there is no escape. You're trapped in a confined place with these people for several hours. One's behavior should be somewhat formal. That begins with dress.

There is 0 reason to dress formally for any non special occasion. I'm sure people lamented the loss of white wigs too.

Formal dress is a way of control by executives and companies. I see no reason to dress the same way that companies force their employees to do to stress uniformity, obedience, and status.
