I know I missed Sandberg pre 89 ish , but I just never thought he had a great glove or range. They give GG's out to the best offensive player at each position unless they are a real butcher.

Back in the day, fewer errors played into it which tells very little.

Bill James credits Sandberg with zero gold gloves.

Would it be fair to say " Bo Jackson is one of the best runningbacks I've ever seen"?

Gordan Beckham was one of the best 1st to 3rd runners I have ever seen, in my timezone, or whatever timezone you may been in.

Maybe because nobody else on the team can seamlessly switch between 2nd, 3rd and SS?

Theo told me that all of his minor league ss could play any other position besides catcher and pitcher just a couple

Baez is not better than Ryno. Yet.

Matches, you are crazy.

Baez is miles ahead of Ryno as far as playing defense.

Miles ahead.

Luol Deng had a better career than Derrick Rose, but 2011 Derrick Rose was a better player than Luol Deng ever was.

If you agree with this statement, then Matches' argument isn't as crazy as some of you are making it out to be.

Sandberg knew defensing positioning. Never had to move much. Back then shifting was not a thing. The guys knew where to be.

Yeah if you never saw Sanders, Peyton, Faulk and Holmes play.

I'll bet that if Baez had the opportunity to play 2B every day, you would find that he would have more chances/putouts than Sandberg ever had. His range is vastly superior, as is his arm.

Matches statement was not "Loul Deng is the best Bulls guard/forward I have ever seen play." If that was the case, it would be just as crazy.

You guys are nuts. This is not a Cubs Sox thing. This is a sane vs insane thing. So far the only sane Cubs fan in this debate is Darkside.

Russell is the more dependable player. People forget when Baez filled in for Russell once he got a hamstring against the Cardinals. Baez biffed a couple of plays those playoffs.

The cat has more pizzaz but he has more boneheaded plays too.

This. He has mental lapses. Not as bad as Starlin Castro but he still has them. That's his fatal flaw.

Now you guys have me confused. He is the best infielder I have ever seen but only over a career, not in a particular season and not in the sense you he would be the person you would most trust in playing the position every day.

You guys are drunk on those tag plays which in reality are as common an occurrence as a balk or HBP.

Do you generally attribute statements from a single person to an entire group of people?

I am being conservative in my approach as Matches has proven to be the most rational of the group
