Yes, if the option were that binary.

That sentence says it right there. In my first marriage (unhappy) I wouldn't have wanted my wife having dinner with another guy. In my current marriage (happy) I don't give a shit who my wife has dinner with. Obviously, there's a different level of trust.

This is what it is all about. Do you completely trust your spouse, or not? If you don't, you probably shouldn't be married in the first place.

No matter how much trust you have there is a pretty long list of things you should do your best to avoid while married.

I don't really see this as having anything to do with trust.

Definitely. I can't think of too many scenarios where I would be eating dinner with another woman, but we don't have hard rules about this.

If some dude invited my wife to a 1 on 1 dinner, I would wonder what his intentions were. Unless he was gay, of course.

How long is the list?

Regardless, I don't think eating a meal with the opposite sex should be on there. JORR's post seems pretty spot on.

Really, what is this list? Sure there are no brainer ones like don't cheat, don't use physical violence, etc, but are you really going to equate dinner or text messaging with adultery?

I did not equate them.

I used Tinder to illustrate a point.

Then please explain to us this 'long list of things you cannot do' once you are married?

Its not like my wife and I have discussed this, I just assume she isn't making random dinner dates with men and she assumes I'm not doing the same with women.

Not all things on the list are equal.

It's a list of things you should do your best to avoid while married.

Obviously, that is weird. I'm not picking up some woman at the grocery store, and taking her to dinner. There are clearly scenarios where it is okay. A coworker, a friend's spouse, and old friend, etc.

Sounds like Rick's list is longer.

Unacceptable if one on one.

Come on. Some of you are out of your minds. Trustworthy or not, how many of you wouldn't pause if your wife came home late and told you she went to dinner with another guy?

It would have to depend on the circumstances, right? "Late" and "another guy" are pretty vague.

I mean, jeez, stuff like this hardly ever happens.
Do you often go on business trips with one woman and then not have dinner plans with anyone else such as clients or other workers?

In my case, yes.

You're a weird cat, Rick. Women don't have cooties.

Lots of reflexive projecting going on in this thread and elsewhere by those outraged by Pence's arrangement with his wife.

1. Pence deciding not to have dinner with females without the presence of his wife is not condemning anyone and everyone else who does this as would-be adulterers.

2. Pence's decision is not painting any man who dares to have dinner with a woman as a sex-hungry beast completely lacking in self-control.

If those are the first places you run to when prompted with this, then maybe it is you who needs some introspective time alone, or just needs to stop looking for things to be pissy about vis a vis high-ranking Republicans.

She's out till 9:00, gets home, and tells you she was at dinner with Frank Coztansa.

Immediate divorce. But if she gets home at a reasonable hour and was at dinner with a work colleague or some dude she's known since they were kids or whatever, there's no reason to give a shit if there's trust there.

7:45 - "Hi, honey, just had a nice dinner with Jim, my old friend from college."

Would that do the trick for you?

I'm not married so maybe a guy like JORR who is and has similar opinions on this can answer, but I don't see the big deal there.

If she stumbled in the door at midnight, and I had no idea where she was, yes, that would be an issue. That is obviously not a scenario I was presenting.
