Reading some of the comments on the various sites are pretty funny. The ruling is absolutely ridiculous considering no official saw it....and it was the next fucking day! 4 shot penalty and ends up costing her over $150K? This is not the first time a viewer has notified the PGA / LPGA of a posssible infraction. I think it happened to Tiger in the Masters several years ago too. It is stupid...stop taking calls and email about rules infractions. Pretty simple fix there.

There is no excuse for this is any sport. The way the rule is written means that almost every time a ball is marked the rule is broken. I can guarantee that most balls are not replaced "exactly" in the same spot, and are unintentionally set back down a few centimeters different.

As much as women's golf sucks, this was awful all the way around. Kudos to Lexi for actually finishing strong and getting into the playoff.

I do think she moved the ball more than what is typical, so there maybe should have been some penalty. However, I don't agree with assessing four strokes the next day based on someone e-mailing after seeing a replay. There are probably many similar infractions that don't get recorded or broadcast, so it seems unfair to penalize only those who are on camera.

Absolutely ridiculous. Once the next round starts, there should be no going back and charging penalties...and never from being alerted by some fan.

Indeed. I found it odd that she wanted to mark in the first place -- probably a "stick to the routine" habit -- but should not be an issue regardless.

The biggest problem I have with all of this is the 2-strokes she was penalized for signing an incorrect scorecard. She only received a 2-stroke penalty for the ball maker mistake, but then to be penalized on top of that for following protocol -- and having multiple people agree with her scorecard at the time -- seems overly excessive and borderline entrapment.

I agree 100%. Also, adding four shots to anybody's score-- particularly the leader-- would have changed the way that MANY players played their round on Saturday.

Actually I think they just recently changed the rule which had previous been outright disqualification...imagine if that had been the case and she was escorted off the course.

Looks to me like she deliberately placed her ball in the wrong spot in order to get a different line to the hole. I have a buddy who is always cheating with his ball mark. Always trying to gain an extra inch or two. Hate that.

It was a one foot putt and she wanted to have the line on the ball lined up with the hole, clearly she did something wrong but I in no way shape or form think she did it on purpose.

Parkins brought up what I thought was a good point on this. It unfairly penalizes or scrutinizes the leaders. Generally, the leaders are the ones that are on TV the most. Therefore, viewers challenging things leaves out a major portion of the field.

I'm fairly certain that the type that would jerk off to these ladies isn't the guy that calls in to rat out "rules violations". They're the type that put notes on people's windshields when they park oddly, he yells at people to slow down in parking lots, he calls the health department on the kid down the street with a lemonade stand, he also hates everyone in baseball that doesn't drop the bat and run around the bases (probably a Cardinals fan), and he feels that he's morally superior to everyone because he would always mark his ball in the proper location.
