He's right though. As a lover of defensive baseball it was amazing how eazy he made that look. He had no business making that catch but he made it look easy. Give some props.

Heyward's presence is very underrated. Think of guys like Soler who are brutal compared to Heyward and the difference it makes to the pitching staff. And with his couple hits in first 2 games, I think he bounces back to a solid .260/.340 15 HR/70 RBI guy.

It's probably not a great idea to project a season from two games, but aside from that the "hit" in the first game was an error that for some reason wasn't called that way. I don't think Heyward has looked any better so far at the plate.

The hit in the first game should have been scored an error and the hit tonight blooped in, just over the SS. That said, sometimes when a few breaks go your way, the pressure eases up and maybe things go a bit better. But lets face it, .260 15 and 70 for a right fielder (if he can hit for those numbers) is NOT SOLID. For a great fielding SS who steals bases, that would be okay. A RF is supposed to be more like .280, 25 85. But on defense, with Almora in CF and Heyward in RF.....pretty good. Late in games you put Jay or Szczur in LF and that is about as good as it gets defensively.

Arietta looked sick. I'm not expecting him to be like '68 Bob Gibson again, but fuck the prjections, he's pretty good.

He was outstanding early and gave them 6 solid innings. I believe he will be the team ace again this year and win 20 or more again. it was nice to see Strop have a clean 7th inning in a ballpark he has really struggled in. Good to see Davis convert on his first chance, after a shaky spring. Just 2 games in, but it would be nice to see Bryant hitting more line drives and popping the ball up or striking out less. He cut back on the strikeouts real well last season, but has a lot of swing and misses so far. Hoping to see him break out of it in the day game tomorrow (weather permitting).

I suppose that makes his 7th extra-clean.

it was a good win but i don't need october-feeling baseball in early april. they need some 11-2 and 9-3 wins, put some teams to sleep.

Lackey vs Lynn today. Decent chance both offenses both offenses come alive .

No doubt a nice catch...I was referring to the odd Maddon-isms ("right-central" instead of right-center, "ribeye" instead of RBI, etc.).

You should just sit Schwarber every game Lackey starts. He will get him killed again.

You think Lackey would try and fight Schwarber after an error in the field?

They had really hit him well, far too often in the past. Which is why it was especially good to see him have a good outing last night.

A late Peralta home run particularly sticks out in my mind. This should be a good year, Cubs clearly the favorite and we are gunning for the WC. Quite an odd position that frankly, haven't been used to in my lifetime.

Lynn's decreased velocity concerns me. Especially as he throws fastballs about 85% of the time.

That's why I figure the Cubs will tee off against him today . Of course , the Cardinals will do the same against Herr Teeth but that's just because he sucks .

Coincidence that Montero is catching Lackey or do you think it'll be this way all year?

I thought Lackey got along well with Contreras last year, but maybe I'm misremembering.
