Russia can sell them some replacement planes now. Everybody wins.

They'd be selling them 70's Sukhoi technology obviated by the military technological advancement of the 80's, 90's, and 00's.

The United States sells Israel stealth fighters and F/A-18 Hornets.

Wha' happen?

Being pendantic here, but Israel has the F-15 and F-16 but not the Hornet. The F-15s and F-16s they have are basically the airframes from the US, but everything else is stripped down and replaced with Israeli parts.

Syria's aircraft inventory has taken a major hit throughout the conflict. Estimates are they are down to 50% of the aircraft they started with. I don't think they have the funds to buy new aircraft. They have basically had to cannibalize to keep their current planes up.

I thought they'd gotten the F-18? Regardless, the F-15 outclasses the Sukhoi shit the Russians sell to everyone else, not to mention the superiority of the 50 F-35's the Israelis seem to have procured from the ether.

This seemed to pretty much be an empty gesture like a few of the Bill Clinton attacks but it's still troublesome.

The United States had to do something. I don't particularly like being the world police, but doing nothing while having the means to do otherwise is worse.

This.

Over a half million Syrians have been slaughtered by their government and we "strategically" bomb vacant areas because some were gassed to death. Why aren't the other deaths important? Did we take out their airfields? Of course not. Will Assad wake up today and kill hundreds more Syrians? Of course he will. This was act of desperation by a president who badly needed a win.

We've dropped THOUSANDS of bombs in Syria since 2013. What has that accomplished?

I'll agree it may be an empty gesture, but don't lay a half million deaths on Trump. For God's sake, that is one place you can truly blame Obama, although I agreed with his stance on staying out of it.

Those were directed at ISIS, and it drove them out of those areas.

I'm not laying that on him. I'm more bothered by the selective outrage of both. Killing thousands of kids with bullets is fine. Killl dozens with gas and we need to possibly start a war.

What did our idiot in chief "win" by this dick picture? A week ago MANY didn't care about Syrian women and children and won't take their refugees.

Until Cheetolini sends his own Uday and Qusai to fight, and gets the shit for brains ruling party in Congress to stand and be counted I have no use for any of this crap.

But I guess this benefits the Kochs and the Secretary of State brought to us by Exxon Mobil

It's pretty revealing that Hillary advocated precisely this kind of attack a few hours before the missiles were launched.

It looks like the anti-war left has woken from its 8 year hibernation. Thank you for joining us the anti-war Libertarians, we have been keeping the post up the last 8 years while you ignored the 7 countries Obama regularly drone bombed.

I'm not necessarily anti war, but I've always been against war in third world areas for profit and political cover

I've been all for the Iran deal as well as the Syrian deal the Russians helped violate. Even though they were departures from Hillary's overly get tough phony posturing

I've said this before, I'm against our intervention, but there's a difference in the eyes of the international community and global norms.

Chemical weapons, whether you agree or disagree with the designation, are WMD and are grouped with nuclear, bio, and radiological weapons. The weapon used here, Sarin, is a more advanced chemical weapon and not anything like mustard gases.

That's why the use of chemical weapons is viewed differently than the use of a conventional bomb. I don't agree with the designation, but global norms view their use differently.

Do you have a cogent point in there? Or want to take a half of a shot at addressing his main point about the hypocrisy?

The point is pretty clear. International law and norms view the use of chemical weapons differently. I don't agree that they should be viewed differently (as I don't consider them to be WMD's) but the world does view them differently and does classify them as WMD's

That is why there is a reaction here while everyone ignores the barrel bombs.

Nothing says "America First" more than launching $90 million of missiles at a janky airstrip halfway around the world.
