I would love someone to force their hand on either Julie's left-wing bullshit (maybe ask why none of them follow her on twitter, whether her social justice crusades wear on them) or Drinky (ask if a station employee has ever carried on an affair with a sponsor's wife). I think you might get a "can't do it" when asking about Drinky, but they may actually break bad on Julie's schtick. Either way it'd be funny as hell.

yesterday parkins made several comments about lines open (aka nobody was calling in to participate). then he said towards the end of the segment "oh now we have 20 people on hold"

It's the first link for April 12 (Transition on 670 The Score- 4/12/2017).

As usual this board is blowing this out of proportion. Lawrence was obviously annoyed but he handled pretty well. Sure, his art comment was a bit delusional but the one who sounded like a total fool was Goff.

I vaguely remember "Can't do it" being a call-in only segment, no texts.

Given what we know about Laurence, I didn't think it was 100% his fault. I mean, I could see how him not getting the job being brought up all the time on the midday show would be annoying. And Parkins is the one that kept pressing the "Laurence is mad" angle. Of course, Laurence always has to take it too far and make physical threats and try to bigtime Parkins. Laurence is a petulant, insecure, half-pint dork with a Napolean complex, but I didn't think this one was entirely his fault (he just made it 100x worse).

Pride is a tough thing to overcome. Laurence could be a beloved hero by coming to CFMB and being a real guy like Mac. But he's too prideful. What do we know? We're just pantsless cretins that listen to these shitty shows more than the average guy. This stuff often becomes clearer in retrospect. Like after you're relegated to the night shift and your career isn't what it could have been had you done things differently.

Like the United thing. It wasn't really about money. It was about pride. Offer two or three grand and someone gets off the plane. Crisis averted. But the employees thought they had the whip hand. "Fuck you!" People love saying "Fuck you!" It feels good. I admit it. But it doesn't usually work out that well. Now $3000 looks tiny compared to refunding an entire flight. And Oscar Muñoz is publicly groveling for his job.

Larry should take a lesson. Get that pride under control. Be a real person.

Great advice.

Goff is going to get the boot, and Parkins will be put with Bernstein.

Or, they might just outright drop Bernstein - makes too much.

I don't think it's blown out of proportion. Goff was defending his guy Larry during this confrontation.

Funny coming from him. Goff harassed Dan McNeil for years before he left for Atlanta. What Parkins did was nothing compared to Goff's "Da Ma Na" thing.

Both Goff and Larry also took their shots at Murph and North.

To Goff & Larry: Ain't no fun when the rabbit has the gun.

If you dish it, you gotta take it boys.

You two can't always be crying like bitches. Ya gotta be a grown ass man about this shit...like Lebron James.

Goff: Motha fucka!!!!

Seems like now that Goff has been bringing his man of the streets/hardass act to the airwaves it's forced Leery into proving he has the same badass attitude as Jason. Showing new guy Parkins the real Leery isn't to be fucked with was mostly done because Goff was there & Leery had to prove he's a bad mofo just like Shaft.

Thanks!....nothing like angry radio. Larry's voice seems much higher on the podcast.

REVIEW: Goff sets his DVR for "We the Fans" without realizing a game before the show will knock it off it's time base and you have to tape the show after what you want to tape to get the whole show.

Larry towards the end: "I've got good stuff,I teach a class." WOW!

Exactly right.

Even if you can't beat your way out of a wet paper bag. Still bad to be threatening a fellow employee.

Getting passed over multiple times for that gig is like an associate at a law firm getting passed over for partner. He should move on.

Parkins knew Leery was pissed. Calling him out on it was kind of a bitch move which was trumped by Leery's own bitch moves. They're all a bunch of whiny jackasses.

late to the party, but just heard it after seeing this thread

-That was really pathetic by Holmes. The whole 'warning', 'you'll know it' spiel was really sad

-It's pretty clear that Holmes and company mock and treat Parkins like shit behind the scenes. Yet Holmes being fake on the air like it isn't the case. It was shown when Parkins said he's requested Holmes work with him (probably to fill in for Spiegs) and was denied. And the whole cutthroat sign thing that Holmes tried to play off as a joke because he got caught.

-Holmes thinks he's Chance the Rapper. "Art" and "Creating"? I listened to 10 minutes of Holmes Friday night. Holmes talking to himself with a lot of pauses and dead air. Same thing from 10+ years ago. Dude hasn't evolved at all.

-Goff adds race to the conversation, shocker. Says there no soap opera but fans the station soap opera flames with the racist guy comment. And throws in the awkward laughter like a teen throws in a lol at the end of a text message to try and soften the blow

Normally it'd be weird to bring this stuff up on the air, but I can't blame Parkins if they're making the workplace and everyday environment hell for him.

Even by the standards of the radio industry, the Score is full to bursting with maladaptive drama queens who overestimate their abilities by orders of magnitude. Only WGN during the Randy Michaels reign of terror and FM News 101 (also a Randy Michaels joint) stand out as Chicago radio workplaces that could be more miserable than the Score, and even those don't seem quite as bad because the sweet release of being fired was always just around the corner. People at the Score are miserable backbiting fucks forever.

CH, which begs the question as to why you have transition and hosts doing stand ins during other time slots when you know there is so much conflict. Maybe Mitch likes the airing of the grievances live on air.

It's a sponsored segment, isn't it?

Mitch is an old-school AM1000 guy and seems to respect the history of the Score, too, so I'm sure he's thus a big believer in stationality -- the whole AM1000 approach has led to a lot of long, perhaps too long, careers for all parties involved. The problem is that the Score's current form lacks two big things:

1) the personnel to sell the idea of the Score as one big cool place where cool people hang around and talk and you're just lucky to drop in on them. They're all so goddamn sensitive and lame. Dahl and Brandmeyer, for as much shit as they may have disturbed, were cool. Parkins versus Leery is just Les Grobstein getting into a fight with another Les Grobstein.

2) 1000 in the late '80s/early '90s was riding higher than high. For a while was probably the greatest radio lineup any station anywhere has ever had. Everyone was getting theirs (and like I said, keep on getting to this day having done little to justify it since). In today's radio landscape, everyone is pretty much fighting for scraps. There's a sense of desperation in the Score's backbiting that's just so unbecoming.

I'm listening so you don't have to. Can't Do It coming up in ten.

For now, Spiegs is coming off as an extremely thin-skinned bitch in the Westbrook conversation.

First "Can't Do It" was Spiegs refusal to give up his Cubs source. Stupid question

Parkins just gave Spiegs girl an 8. Admitted he was just matching Spiegs response.
