This is something new The Score is doing, kicking off every segment with a separate and distinct "update" on which Chicago baseball team is playing, and their opponent, but not the time, nor the channel. Of coirse, this segment includes a sponsor read at the front and back end of hosts saying "The Cubs have the Brewers tonight, the White Sox have the Yankees". The back-end read is actually longer than the actual "update" itself.

This is egregious, and needs to be stopped, if not voluntarily, by the FCC. There is no conceivable way in which this segment can be viewed as in the public interest, and indeed accomplishes something another sponsored update already does.

I know revenue is down (in part because of an extreme SJW shift in content hue), and part of the unstated agreement between commercial radio stations and the public is that we get free entertainment in exchange for a few 5-minute ad breaks, shamelessly sponsored segments and live reads as well as half-innings during baseball broadcasts. The thing is, creating a completely redundant sponsor segment, and repeating it after every break AND UPDATE WHICH ALREADY TELLS YOU WHO IS PLAYING AND WHEN, is three bridges too far.

This should be grounds to losing your license to broadcast on airwaves that are, after all, owned by the public, and only licensed for commercial use with the mandate to serve the public interest.

In a rare occurrence, I am 100% in agreement with JLN.

If they said the time and channel they would be on, it would be great but I can assume they can't pimp another station. At least tell me the time...

The commercial that's far worse is the one where they give a game score from the previous week without mentioning any of the team names or the player names due to licensing issues. As in "Chicago's hometown football team lost to New England 55-20. New England's quarterback threw for 450 yards and 5 touchdowns in the first half, and the 110 yard rushing performance by Chicago's star running wasn't enough to come back."

This segment might've been slightly less annoying if it was, say, 1997 where if you didn't have a newspaper or a pocket schedule you'd be hard pressed to divine the information on your own and quickly at that.

Then read a sponsor and then proceed with the rest of the traffic report as if that awkward sponsor transition never happened... At least they can read the name of the teams on the stupid baseball report ads... We aren't subjected to "congrats to the team from chapel Hill on beating the team from Spokane!" You get on some ads
