I'll take that as "Yes, I see the disconnect, but I'm unwilling to address it because I would have to admit a fault or series of faults." Thanks, you too.

He already admitted fault in his previous post. Some of you guys have pretty questionable opinions on this topic to be honest.

He has yet to admit the unquestionable disconnect between dictating to people their own outrage at his use of slurs, and others dictating to him the outrage he is allowed at slurs hurled his way.

Agreed. We've probably all used it, but I'd never try to justify it. It seems that that is the goal of some, and I'm not sure why. It's an awful word with terrible historical connotations.

Who is justifying the usage of slurs? I mean, except for Nas saying he'd call someone a burrito in a road rage incident because he's angry....

In Trump's America questionable opinions such as those are making America great again.

I've said it. I've read it. I've heard it. I can say the justification that I was young and didn't know better but that doesn't really matter. I try my best to do better as an adult on all things and this is one that only comes up when dealing with father in law. or works like huck fin. Father in law... good lord. I swear he does it to get a reaction. To clarify, it's the old man saying it and his choice of slurs are legion. Poor guy might stoke out if he finds out his daughter was married to someone who was just as much Polish as German.

It's just not a word I think any of us will really understand and a discussion that doesn't lead to any greater understanding. It has a historical context that few words do. You could be 100% logically correct in your argument, and it's still an argument we all lose.

you're coming off as extremely sanctimonious. and i'm sure nas has had to endure either being called "n" or been treated that way, and you have not had to go through anything of the sort. he's owning up to the fact that he's come around from being an admitted homophobe.

It may not be justifying but arguing with a black guy about how other words are just as bad is a pretty horrible look

Except I'm not. I've never said or implied that "burrito" is as bad as the N-word. I'm asking Nas, and others by proxy, to investigate whatever it is that tells them it is OK to tell others how mad a word can make them, but recoil at the thought of others doing it to them.

Also, this is the "discussion" part of "there needs to be a discussion about..." that is thrown about by MANY. It appears, though, that MANY are not actually interested in discussing anything.

Using the word has never been as offensive as being shown that society thinks you are one.

What the fuck are we discussing? I would have agreed with your original post, but then you have to go all JLN and make the white man the victim. It's too bad your disposition is what it is. You're an intelligent guy.

Dictating to people their own allowable level of outrage at something.

Then let's debate something meaningful. I'll go get a handle.

No, I'm joking, I haven't been drinking. That's just how Roger would respond, in my head.

Roger's best moment of the series was when he interrupted the Japanese meeting and started saying shit like "it's UNCONDITIONAL" and shit like that. Don't remember the exact words. It was hilarious

Yeah, the partners kept Roger out of the loop on Honda coming in, but when he found out, he waltzed into the conference room and started referencing "dropping the big one" and "dictating terms".

The odd thing of it to me is always how the same people who want to discuss the use of the word are all too often the same ones to claim (or imply) that it's somehow "unfair" that there's a double standard over it's use.

And those of us who suffer from the word and attitudes wouldn't waste time or effort talking about the mythical "fairness". On this and a myriad of topics.

I'm really just curious as to why you're so fixated on these kinds of issues. Although I am glad we're not talking under the phony "state's rights" flag.

And for the record I'm abstaining from voting here

If you abstain from voting I'll abstain from answering your question.

And what is with your fixation on dual federalism? Why do you think it is bad or "phony"?

Because it's a dog whistle for most that want to talk about state's rights and disingenuous cover for most of their real motivations

Gives the states rights folks a break. Most of us aren't racist and MANY states get issues correct long before the federal government does.
