Your first paragraph is just straight out incorrect. You are focusing on my ethnicity. I wrote early on that they weral words of that variety were equal

This is complete bullshit. I've deleted or edited MANY posts with ethnic slurs. Admittedly I don't see every post or know every word that's offensive. Whenever these things are pointed out they're removed. You've pointed out several posts that I have removed or edited because they were offensive. The problem that people had with BF is that he allowed MANY of them to stay even when they were pointed out and he occasionally crossed certain lines himself.

Complete? You sure you want to go that far?

It is. Every time I have seen someone post something that I knew to be an ethnic slur or had it brought to my attention that something posted was offensive I deleted or edited the post. I don't make an announcement every time I do it but you have seen it done. To compare what bigfan allowed to what we try to accomplish is COMPLETE bullshit.

Yes, he is.

No he isn't.

As you said it may not be realistic, nor do they have the same historical connotations in America, but any derogatory term hurled in anger is the same. It is intended to put down the target.

That's ridiculous

It's really not.

Someone calling leash a fucking burrito and calling ltg a fucking n***er today both are meant to degrade them.

See my post above. Intent isn't really all that relevant. You can't admit that no word has the same historical connotation as n***** and then at the same time say any slur is equal to it.

And let's also cut this bullshit of "the ability of the target to cope with the slur" shit. Words have meanings and historical connotations attached to them. It's fucking ridiculous to say that a black man being more upset about being called n***** is more sensitive and has less thick skin than me shrugging off someone calling me a Mic because Im irish.

Then my reality is just as valid as yours and my level of offense can be just as equal

Should I be more offended when a German or Russian calls me a polock because of their history of cultural genocide of my people? Of course not

Seriously?

I've made it a point throughout this entire thread to say you can be offended about whatever you want! Can't you Polacks read!?

I'm stealing this from a comedian but if you're trying to compare which word is more offensive than another and you cant even say one of the words, that's the more offensive word.

History plays a part in any word becoming offensive. The attempt by you to diminish the historical impact of words so you can feel good is mind-boggling. According to you all words and experiences are the same. Therefore you hitting your little toe on the table is the same as a slave getting 50 lashes because both hurt really bad. I'm not Jewish but I can understand that a holocaust surviver experienced something far worse than someone calling me a n-word or not doing business with me because I am black. Statements like yours appear to be a part of a recent trend by MANY to rewrite history. Slavery wasn't that bad. HBCU's were school choice. N-word is the same as saying midget.

You tell me you're having a bad day and I tell you I am too. I tell you I was late for a meeting and you tell me that you just found out that you have a month to live. To me my bad day isn't equal to yours. If we're both sick but I have a stomach virus and you have cancer then my illness isn't the same as yours. If you call me a pussy and then I call you the p-word it would be ridiculous for me to say that both insults are equal.

You declaring that all insults/slurs are equal is offensive. I would jokingly call a little person a midget. I wouldn't call/use an ethnic slur (that I was aware was an ethnic slur) to insult/describe anyone.

Dolphin, I simply cannot follow nor appreciate your attempts at logic here.

There are instances of fighting words and other instances of language not being protected and a nearly unassailable position that certain words are the most intemperate and offensive but in an odd attempt at a point of order you seem to want to blindly ignore that.

The point is that dehumanizing words are of equal weight as their intended result is equal

But a Black man is far less likely to suggest that your heritage makes you less of a human than if the slur was presented by a person of any European descent. At least in American history

No. To illustrate my point, there are words you'd never use in even the most heated argument with your wife or a parent
