Danish getting roughed up in the first. Same guy. Reliever all the way. Of course he hasn't been helped by Moncada having absolutely no range to his right. He missed two balls a major league second baseman has to make.

I wouldn't say he has no control. He's still learning how to harness his incredible stuff and when he does the walks will come down but a 2.25 k/bb ratio is still pretty good for a 21 yr old in double A.

When your mindset is wanting to be the hardest thrower ever to pitch in the majors, I have a hard time believing that.

Kopech is a flashy guy. Instagram model girlfriend. He wants to be known for throwing hard. Not sure why that means he can't learn control.

Former 1st Round pick Courtney Hawkins has struck out 20 times in last 24 at bats. God damn!

Fulmer had another nice start yesterday. Era is now under 3. Kevan Smith is hitting .388 now. Might be worth a look at least part time.

If Sox fans were Cub fans there would be clamoring to package Smith with Dan Hayes for Mike Trout.

The funny thing is that today I heard multiple Cubs fans on Mully and Hanley call in to say trade Baez because Ian Happ is the better player.

For the Wisconsin fans out there:

Corey Ray (#5 pick in last year's draft JRW/Simeon/White Sox ACE/Louisville) is doing work in High A ball.

Very hipster. Seems like he is continuing his Arizona Fall League.

Kevan Smith is back on the Sox, as Soto went on the DL yesterday. I wish they would get rid of Soto and go with Narvaez & Smith for the rest of the season.

I think he is a viable MLB level backup catcher. Not sure what the ceiling is on him as he is already 28 years old.

Here is a Chris Widger fact that can win you a bar bet sometime. Game 3 of the 2005 World Series. We all know Blum hit the go ahead HR, but the Sox actually won that game 7-5. How did the Sox get their 7th run?

Chris Widger knocked in Arron Rowand on a bases loaded walk.

Moncada's strikeout rate is eyebrow-raising, there's no doubt, and it shouldn't be completely ignored. That said, K-rates at higher minor league levels don't actually foretell MLB struggles, at least not as much as sky-high rates at the lower levels of the minors. It's counter-intuitive, but research has shown it's the guys with 30%+ K-rates in A-ball that tend to struggle in the MLB, more so than guys with similar rates at AA and AAA.

As for his 2016 MLB stint, it was plainly irrelevant. The Sawx were in the midst of a playoff push, and couldn't deal with a rookie struggling at the plate, whatever the cause, be it related to actual talent or sample size or anything else.

He has really cut down on the strikeouts lately. Today he was rung up by Amir Garrett, who had 6 total K's in 2.0 IP and may be the single best pitching prospect in the game.

From Twitter:

Yoan Moncada strikeout rate, first 18 games: 32.5% Yoan Moncada strikeout rate, 11 games since: 16.0%

If he keeps up doing what he is doing, I would think he would be playing on the southside sooner rather than later.

They'll promote him at the beginning of a prolonged homestand for the attendance boost. My guess is Saturday the 27th, with the announcement coming during Friday's doubleheader so people have plenty of time to get online and buy tickets.
