This is a strange comment given the thread. Reinsdorf is a cheap owner. This is pretty much a fact. In this case the Sox weren't cheap though.

Not true. Reinsdorf ALWAYS spends money when he needs to. From Jordan and Belle to Rose. Hell he was willing to participate with everyone for Kobe.

Bolded part is patently false.

That is definitely true.

No it's not. The Sox play in the third biggest market in the country and look at their payrolls since he's been an owner. The Bulls are one of the best selling and most profitable teams in the NBA. Look how often he's paid the luxury tax. He's a cheap motherfucker when it comes to owners.

The Sox payroll is usually in the upper half of baseball and the Bulls payroll is as well. You're basically saying that you want him to be foolish. Uncle Jerry spends when he needs to. He is willing to pay IF they have a shot at winning OR acquiring a star. He doesn't want to overpay to be mediocre. That's smart.

He doesn't want to pay what it takes to stay competitive. That's being cheap, not being smart. His teams are in Chicago. A middle of the league payroll is deserving of the cheap label.

Overpaying doesn't make you competitive.

So what players has Jerry had the chance to get and was cheap? In basketball he tried to get everyone and foolishly spent on a couple of people. I baseball he has been aggressive when he had a shot. He gave out the highest contract ever at one point in both sports. It has been 2 decades and no NBA player has gotten paid more than MJ.

There are a ton of players in MLB he could've gotten over the past 20 years if he wasn't so cheap. There's no cap. As for the Bulls, his record speaks for itself. Several mid market teams have paid the luxury tax more often than the Bulls.

It's simple really. He's in the third largest market in the country. He runs both his teams like mid market teams. You think that's smart. Obviously I disagree.

You are comparing apples to oranges. 1 sport has a salary cap, the other doesn't. In baseball, having the 3rd best market and not having a payroll reflecting that is cheap. The park would fill up, if Kenny were fired. It also would fill up if they spent money of players to be competitive. We just have no desire to watch a franchise be .500, and it shows by the attendance.

Maybe if Jerry wasn't so contemptuous towards Sox fans more people would show up and tune into White Sox games. His lack of revenues to support high payrolls are his fault.

White Sox will be fine. Most popular team in Chicago.

Whether Jerry is cheap or not, he's been an incompetent owner of the Sox. His 35 year run speaks for itself.

He's brought 7 championship to Chicago and the Sox have been competitive most of the time he's been here.

A few of Reinsdorf's awful decisions over the years:

- Firing Harry Caray
- Sportsvision
- Firing Dave Dombrowski
- Firing LaRussa
- Turning down a retro-style park design in favor of New Comiskey
- Lead dog of 1994 strike despite having the best team in the AL
- 5 postseason appearances in 35 years, no back-to-back appearances.

6 of those are because he got lucky by drafting the best player in the history of basketball. Excuse me if I don't credit him with that.

So that's one real title in 35+ years of two teams. A fuckin joke of an owner.

Thinking Roger Clemens was washed up and opting for Jamie Navarro instead.

Reinsdorph didn't draft MJ.

I agree with this, the man has brought us 7. And I will not bad mouth him for that. But...facts are facts, and we are in the #3 if not the #2 market from baseball.

JR was correct in that Clemens was clearly becoming a middle of the rotation guy. Nobody knew that Roger would pump himself full of steroids for the next 10 years.

Navarro was fucking terrible.

Take the penis belonging to "KLaw" out of your mouth for a minute. There are plenty of good players taken then:

Chris Sale, Corey Seager, Marcus Stroman, Jose Fernandez Sonny Gray, and Jason Heyward were all mid first rounders.
