it was 6 times, not 8

Irritating as hell. Bad U2 is just bad.

Good U2 is Syracuse '87.

But I have to give it to Bono for having a good-looking daughter.

Nah, it's not weird. My friends and I were listening to Pink Floyd at that age.

It's weird if you're 15 and don't listen to 1973-1979 Pink Floyd.

U2 is a hard band to comprehend. I want to agree with Scooter but I want to agree with CH too.

I really dug their first three albums.

They are a great band led by an annoying genius.

"Pride (In the Name of Love) is the apotheosis of the co-optation of dissent under neoliberal hegemony.

Back in my day 15 year old girls were listening to stuff like Michael Jackson and Wang Chung and the weird ones were into the Cure and Psychedelic Furs. None of them were into Glenn Miller and Bing Crosby.

As a 15 year old Floyd was on constant rotation. This would have been mate 80's. My daughter cringes when I play that music now. She's 14. Although I did get her to like Zeppelin.

I do find it somewhat strange that classic rock has erased the generation gap between Boomers and their Millennial children. As a teenager I certainly wasn't hanging out listening to Glenn Miller and Dick Haymes with my old man. Music and hairstyles tore us apart. Baseball brought us together.

swing music had made a comeback back in the mid 90s amongst the yute.

I'm one of those damn gen xers. My folks were born in 41 so they are not boomers but I found it funny growing up I was trapped in my Dad's car listening to magic 104 for years and years. About the mid 90's my dad discovered 105.9 and started listening to classic Rock. They had records from Beatles and stones and such but I'm guessing they were my moms.

Oddly enough, I actually enjoy that late 50's early 60s music now. Rarely listen to it but it is nostalgia I believe. My daughter does not appreciate me singing the Wanderer however.

Yes, but for all the mocking Tributosaurus gets here, that "modern" swing was really worse. Guys dressing up in old suits and playing grandpa's music. There's nothing genuine about it. The best thing I can say about it is it got a lot of cute girls in tight dresses and heels twirling on the dance floor.

ya i use to listen to dick biondi on 104.3 back in the day too. I like late 50s and early 60s rock myself. my favorite music and time of Rock and Roll because it was so raw. I don't like the beatles at all of that makes sense. but i also like some good classic rock.

I never got the resurgence among the yute for Tony Bennett back in the 2000s. Never liked the guy. Thought he was such a boring singer and performer.

There's a lot of parallels between the Gen-Xers and that postwar generation that doesn't really have a name. They're both small generations and wear their disaffection on their sleeves.

Silent generation (just before--my parents were born in '35, and are Silent generationers)

Generations are weird though. I mean obviously people born in 41 have more in common with boomers than they do with people born in 24 or whenever the greatest generation petered out and transitioned to silent generation. I remember sitting in Moskosos intro to Soc class and going over Gen X and being "Likd this is total bullshit" which probably means his definition hit home in fine way. It's been 23 years or so which might explain my foggy memory. All I know is I don't like being told what to do or how I think.

My dad was older than his years. Military kid, served in Vietnam. Part of me wonders if he ever was a kid. I'm rambling. Being a second half gen x it really was s population bust. Not a lot of us

Yeah, I mean the kids that came of age after WWII. Like the teens in West Side Story. My dad was born in '25 and my mom in '36 and their respective worldviews were drastically different.

'Kids' back then were like men. When you were 18 you looked like a 40 year old man of today. Remember when Pearl Harbor happened a lot of those kids who died were really like 13/14. The age to enroll in the Navy then was 16 but many kids lied about their age to get in due to coming from impoverished situations.

for example, here is Louie Zamperini at 18 (left) with his older brother pete who was 20 when this picture was taken. They both look like today's 40:

They are the banner carriers for the meretricious politics of neoliberal humanitarian interventionism, the musical equivalent of the NGO. If the Clinton Foundation made a documentary about itself, U2 would be featured on the soundtrack.

Be that as it may, the intro to "Where the Streets Have No Name" is awesome.

UnPOPular take; U2's best album is 'POP'
