Just tell the kid to remove the shit from his phone. Problem solved.

That's right. I guess the kid was playing it back for his buddies, too. That wasn't too nice. I think this kid might have had issues to begin with. That was a shocking resolution to a problem.

Playing it for his buddies was an accusation levied by the girl, we have no idea if that's true or not. I'm not sure what she based that on. Further, the article states the recording is unclear....doesn't sound like the kid was gearing up to be running the next Brazzers

Quote:
Officer Brett Heun asked Corey if he could download the contents of his phone and remove the "illegal items," according to a police report. Police told the coroner's office that Corey consented to the request and was "very cooperative, forthright and did not appear to be scared."

The recording the officer sought ended up being a video file with no discernible images. Police described it as "very dark" and "more of only audio." A lawyer for the family said nothing can be seen in the recording.

Yeah, but if the girl's name is mentioned on the audio,it's still embarrassing for her.

my father was involved in a local suicide hotline/help organization for years. i had a good friend kill himself when i was in highschool and this was the top of conversation a lot between my father and I. with my very small understanding, i find it hard to believe that everything was hunky dory prior to this and after this one interaction with the school/police he decided to kill himself.

often times teen suicide is completely a surprise to people who knew the teen.

so while i would say that i'm not a fan of the police/school interaction and methods use to "scare" the kid, i have a hard time placing 100% of the blame on them. or even a lion share of the blame.

the threat of being labeled a sex offender the rest of your life for recording a sexual interaction with another student is out and out absurd.

I would doubt that most teens who commit suicide would be clinically termed to be suicidal.

Teens, despite outward appearances, are fragile. They also are developmentally unable to place things in proper perspective. I think they see suicide as just a long sleep, for lack of a better analogy.

Named Corey, from Naperville, probably lives in a McMansion, and jumped to death.

Denied.

Maybe they can have another kid and name him Kaiden.

Kid potentially had a lot of pressure on him from parents about doing the right thing and how actions had long lasting consequences. Sounds a bit like my folks and my conversations as a teen. I know if I had the police saying I was going on the sex offender list my thought would not be straight and logical as a 16 year old. Had a conversation about it with them in my mid 30's Retrospectively I know they would have helped and all but they did not employ the warmest of parenting tactics and as a child I assumed I'd be disowned. I'd say the biggest mistake the school did, besides not having the parent present was leaving the kid alone. Supervision after having serious crap like this discussed seems like it would be a safe policy.

It's sad that some in authority don't realize the potential impact on a kid when acting as high handed as they often do.

I ran into a situation with one of my sons where he was on the perimeter of a crowd where another, younger kid was being bullied. When questioned about it, the victimized kid even noted that my son and 2 other kids did absolutely nothing.

But that hadnt prevented the principal and dean from making all kinds of prior allegations and threats to him and my wife on a Friday afternoon. Fortunately my wife called me hysterical shortly after it blew up. I got on the phone with my son, told him not to say a single word until I got there, not even to his misled mother.

When I found out all that happened and how far they'd gone at the school I thought about choking the shit out of any administration person that said word one to either of us. They had tried to get my son and his friends to sign admissions of guilt of things that no witness or the victim even claimed.

I threatened immediate legal action in the Monday meeting and recited all of their improper actions and attempts to coerce a minor. By the time I got finished teachers and the assistant principal at the meeting were laughing  at the principal and dean for all they'd done and how they were profusely they were shaken by my words.

My son's friends (& my wife) even worried that my explosion was going to get them kicked of school. My son laughed his ass off comfortable that dad had his back, as usual

I'd like to say this story is surprising, but it's one I've heard too frequently. I'm going to have a hard time teaching my son to "respect authority" when authority is so fucking corrupt.

RR, that's a great story.

It is very true teachers and cops cornering a high school age kid can coerce them into all types of sketchy decisions based on the kid's youthful ignorance to their rights as an individual.

Well that's the key right there. In a healthy family dynamic the kids know you have their backs. When the shit hits the fan you are their first defense. Makes you wonder what was going on in this family in the article.

When you receive threats like "being put on the register" even the best family can't mitigate that damage.

When I did teach high school, I saw this happen quite a bit. Administrators--at college campuses, too--take on the role of cops, and it's silly. But frightened students often don't know their rights, as jbi11s says.

Colleges investigating rape charges--now that's a disaster.

and there are the JDC types encouraging this shit saying we need more of it. Perhaps it needs to have her own son made the subject of an inquisition to change her mind.

but not harassment....well, it might be a disaster, but often there is no other place to turn than to your college when you are being harassed

god that was awful
i'm trying to understand the motive to fuck him over though.....is it just that the ex-wife/Deanna was pissed that he cheated on her and decided she was going to ruin him ? I can understand the prosecutor trying to put another notch on her belt, but otherwise it's not exactly clear

I got the feeling that Deanne just found it easy to believe because she hated Ray. I think the daughter's take on her mother is probably correct.

That shit was crazy. Still, like Bagels, I wonder what exactly was the motivation for sticking this guy in prison? The author obviously didn't pursue, or want to print what he thought/knew. Good article JoRR. Pretty infuriating tbh.

Also, they reference the McMartin case. 360 kids came forward in that case. Even though no one was ever charged it was the most expensive case in American history by the time it ended in 1990. The jurors came to the conclusion some of the children were definitely molested, but they couldn't identify by who. It's a weird fucked up case, and it can send you down a rabbit hole if you let it.

Sounds like the author thinks (and Ray definitely thinks) Shirley and the other cop set him up....but as to why they put the guy in jail....maybe they convinced themselves of it. Yeah, I wish the writer would have pursued this.....crazy.

Maybe printing the "why" could have messed up the financial reward they received. That's my conclusion.

How can Ray actually get the money? I can't see those people actually having $9 million.

When that's the case, aren't checks written monthly forever until $9mil is reached? The state wasn't sued, correct?

The part that really gives me pause is how the mother was unable to see the kid in his last moments...if it were me, I think I would rather not have the image of him suffering burned into my mind (especially after a fall from that height), but I also see how she wanted to be with him.

Just a horrible story.

They will for sure never have sex, so no need to worry about sexting.
