I know we have done this before, but I am too lazy to find it. Had this discussion tonight with someone. He took the side that Tyson would beat Ali if both fought in their primes. I said that was insane. Ali would dominate Tyson. Tyson would not be able to handle his quickness and lightening fast jab

What say the rest of you

Ali would win but not because of any physical advantages. He would dominate him mentally and strategically. Tyson would fall apart when his barrages did little damage. Watch Ali v Foreman. It's a work of fucking art. And I think Foreman was more powerful than Tyson.

I've been obsessed with boxing lately. I made the Foreman thread but was gonna make a similar thread to this. I'm addicted to these old boxing vids on Youtube.

There are a lot of great matches on youtube. It is great to watch some of the legends.

I really wish I could get the guy I was talking to tonight in a room with JORR. This guy is of the opinion that the more modern person is always better than the older guys. He also told me tonight that Kluber was a better pitcher than Kofax

I guess I'm in the minority here as I don't particularly care for Ali . I think an in his prime Tyson would win but Ali took the best of what Frazier had to offer and won so I don't know if Tyson was a better puncher than Frazier cuz if he isn't then he obviously loses.

Nah I think they'd eventually win by decision

I think Tyson was much quicker but his power is exaggerated when compared to some of the old greats like Frazier, Foreman, Marciano, etc.

Then again you're old as fuck so you'd know better than I would.

FF thinks modern boxing is superior because they discovered spacing.

This is a poor attempt at a joke. There are hundreds of full length nba games on YouTube from the 80's and 90's. Watch some. If you're being honest you'd admit they do indeed have very poor spacing for the most part.

Also, I've watched tons of 80s and 90s basketball. The 95 Magic were the best spaced team I've ever watched.

It's easy to forget simple stuff as you get older.

Your NBA opinions are pretty inconsistent though. You think almost every classic older team would beat this Warriors team but you also think the next 4-7 games against this Warriors team is the litmus test for if LeBron is better than jordan.

Look, you're my guy and all, but you need to stop implying that people need to watch more basketball. There are people on here who have watched and played basketball for decades. And I can promise that your assertion that NBA teams just "figured out" spacing in the last few years sounds absolutely ridiculous. I was taught spacing at grade school basketball camp in '94.

There is nothing exaggerated about Mike Tyson's power.

In Tyson's absolute prime, I mean, like, probably early-1988 Tyson, it would have been a heckofa match, as Mike had some of the very best technique, defense, and footwork that there could possibly be. He was an astute student of the game, who knew where to be, and where you were going to be.

After that time, he became a rock star, switched trainers, didn't train as hard, and started getting in with Don King, which is why his progress halted, and so quickly.

Well, this isn't really a debatable topic. There are hundreds of articles from people who can articulate this much better than you or I detailing the evolution of the game and the superior spacing that has come from the past 30 years of NBA ball. To say that the 95 Magic had superior spacing to the 2014 Spurs or 2017 Warriors isn't a bad opinion, it's objectively wrong.

And I only say watch those games because I often do and these games were 20-30 years ago so it's not insulting to suggest it's easy to forget how different the play style was.

Ali with what we know now.

But Cus D'mato Tyson vs Ali in his prime? It would be close.

Don King Tyson, forget about it, Ali in round 1.

Agreed, but any two world class heavyweights in their prime would be close.

If Cus could've lived to 110, then Tyson would've been the greatest fighter ever.

No, even if Cus survived Satan incarnate Don King would have found a way to lure Tyson into his grip.

He's right you know...

Ali was also great because he was a student of boxing and his opponents. Tyson was too, right up until he knocked out Marvis Frazier and Michael Spinks with the ol one hitter quitter

Cus was gone before Mike hit his prime.

The loss of Kevin Rooney - i.e. the right hand of Cus, probably was his tipping point downward.

Teddy Atlas leaving was no big deal.

Tyson would have continued his greatest with anyone who was a legitimate boxing trainer like say Bob Arum. But not with Don King who introduced MIke to pussy, money, crooks, and the scum of the earth.

Its sad, but I think the same thing happened to Bruce Lee.

I guess when you are the Baddest Man on the Planet, you can't help but to get cocky.

He, too, achieved rock star status (and started behaving like one), and abondoned much of the discipline that got him to the top.
