I think years ago,they made a TV movie about his relationship with his sick daughter. I guess I'll google it. I didn't realize he was that old.

I really liked The National. Good writing and layout.

Deford also wrote a pretty good baseball book (The Old Ballgame) which was about Christy Mathewson, John McGraw, and the deadball era.

I also read The National. I can remember a time when Chicago had 4 dailies,different editions on the same day. Those were the days.

I read The National, though I preferred The Sporting News since I wasn't reading The National every day.

The national was great but I remember it being hard to get a hold of for me as I wasn't driving st the time. Was bummed when I found out it closed shop.
