I worked with this guy on a play about 5 years ago. We were castmates. Couldn't be a nicer, sweeter guy. Always wanted to hang out more but he lived far from me, and we just never got the chance. Looks like he was working at the time, Uber maybe.

He was fatally stabbed to death. 34 years old. Really has been on my mind since learning about it. Lots of outpouring on his FB page.

RIP, Grant. You did not deserve this at all.

Sorry to hear that WZ. That is a hell of way to go out.

Death in the time of FB is a strange phenomenon. I feel odd wishing a happy birthday to someone I'm not really close to, let alone to give a little mini eulogy. The worst is that the profile is out there forever. I still see dead people pop up in the FB memories or 'wish Joe Smith a happy birthday today'

true. active facebook profiles for people who have died can be creepy; though today i'm really a mess watching all of these posts...some birthday videos from years past, and a going away video for the last job he was at, where he was a server.

seeing him happy, vibrant...it's incredibly emotional.

Sorry to hear that.

A few years ago, a friend of mine drown in Lake Michigan one night during the winter. Apparently fell in near one of the harbors somehow. Never had a death affect me the way that did. I guess it made me question my own mortality for the first time. Never really been able to get it off my mind.

Not the first Uber driver murdered and definitely wont be the last. Very sad that this happened, but its even sadder that people will continue to use and defend a platform that does nothing to protect drivers or passengers. What happened here is definitely preventable but Uber and Lyft ensure problem riders (and drivers) continue to use their app. Cheap rides > human lives, I suppose.

HS is right on...interesting pieces out there by some magazines and whatnot on that phenomenon. Too lazy to find and post them though. More importantly, sorry to hear this, WZ.

Who will protect the drivers from having money stolen from them?

Sorry man.....What the hell could this motive be?

Eliza Wasni, 16, has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the killing of Grant Nelson, 34, according to the Cook County state's attorney's office.

Maybe it's nothing more elaborate than he was just looking to roll him for his dough.

getting those updates today was extremely bizarre. i would have never even thought it was something like that. i had figured it was while he was working, and that it was an Uber passenger. but a 16 year old girl?

i just feel so bad for his family. what a horrible time this must be for them.
