After finally getting my hands on the full version of "Cannibal Holocaust" I watched it, and it is definitely one of the most disturbing movies I've seen. Made me think of listifying the most disturbing movies I've ever seen...this is not at the top of the list, but it is very haunting and actually very well made.

Seeing a turtle being dismantled is VERY VERY disgusting. And it happens for real in this movie. It is not fake. That's why it was shrouded in controversy--well that and the fact that it exploits just about everything you can think of...but it certainly shows the dark side of humanity.

So these movies can be movies that scare you, or just make you feel generally awkward and uncomfortable.

Anyway here's the list:

1. "I Spit On Your Grave"

2. "Meet the Feebles"

3. "Freaks"

4. "Cannibal Holocaust"

5. "Man Bites Dog"

6. "Happiness"

7. "The Exorcist"

8. "The Blair Witch Project"

9. "The Thing"

10. "Night of the Living Dead"

The funny thing is I own most of these movies...

I'll also give a small nod to the first 10 minutes of "Begotten" as one of the most visually captivating and horrifying 10 minutes of film footage I've ever seen. The rest of the movie, however, is pure shit and pretty much worthless. A shame...

Light 'em up...

American Psycho, if only for the fact that someone gets killed while Huey Lewis and the News is playing in the background...

fear and loathing in las vegas - some great disturbing images of what goes on in ones head during massive ingestion of hallucinogenic drugs. pretty funny, too. johnny depp is a fine actor, as is benicio del toro.

house of 1000 corpses - every moment of this movie is disturbing. completely fucked-up, depraved slasher film. i give it a thumbs up, in a disturbing kind of way. have not yet seen the sequel, "devil's rejects". if anyone has seen it, is it any good?

"Derailed" -There is a scene where Jennifer Aniston's character gets sexually assaulted and for some reason it was too much or me and my fiance. We ended up stopping the dvd and not finishing it. First time I've ever actually stopped watching a movie but it was just too depressing to watch further.

The original Texas Chainsaw and Evil Dead used to be pretty disturbing to me. Evil Dead more for the end scene then anything.

She knows, but maybe I should make sure she still wants to. We are getting married next year.

As for inviting the CSFMB, the answer is no, but I will open up a thread and post updates as the day progresses.

With a year left, you should be able to organize a wedding that is not so boring that you have to post.

yes. i like "house of 1000 corpses" for the rewatchability factor, but "Devil's Rejects" feels more like a "movie".

Here's another one - "The Shining". Some of the most bizarre and chilling visuals I've seen...the twins alone...man.

Funny thing about The Shining. I never watched the real movie version, I had only ever seen the one that is usually on TBS/TNT. A little after I got out of collage I was watching the real version for the first time and realized that movie is nothing without the bathroom scene between the murdered wife and Jack.

Requiem for a Dream-Intense, disturbing and great movie. I sat for 30 minutes after it ended just brain dead staring at the screen. Emotionally spent.

Hostel-Torture upon torture, it was brutal, disturbing and a bad movie to top it off.

The Passion of the Christ-Just a snuff film. Terrible movie.

Open Water-Two honeymooners left in the ocean and get eaten by sharks for 90 minutes. Awesome...

Boxing Helena-I think that was the name of it, and saw it when I was like 13 but I remember this guy cutting a woman's arms and legs off and putting her into a box because he loved her and wanted to keep her. Something like that. Messed up.

my favorite part of the shining:

Jack Torrance: Wendy.
Wendy Torrance: Stay away.
Jack Torrance: Darling. Light, of my life. I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just gonna bash your brains in. I'm gonna bash 'em right the fuck in. Ha, ha.

those twins are definitely creepy.

was thinking about that one too...very messed up movie. there was something genuinely not right about it--i really questioned whether the filmmaker's house should be searched after a movie like that.

"Requiem" is disturbing too. Probably one of the most effective anti-drug movies ever made.

"Hostel" is a very ironic movie, more about gluttony, greed, and American imperialism than it is torture porn. That was just a device, used pretty effectively. But I think a lot of people got the wrong idea about it...i thought it was a hoot.

Oh shit, thanks (w_z, is your name zach?) cause you just reminded me with your mention of gluttony and greed

Seven was very disturbing. As I watched that, I thought the sloth guy was too much, but "whats in the box" made it even worse.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me was pretty fucked up. Talk about an acid trip on film. I've seen it a couple of times and I still have no idea what the hell that movie is about.

lost highway
mullholland drive
eraserhead

actually, eraserhead might be at the top of my list of disturbing movies.

Two come to mind for completely different reasons,
1. Seven. This is such a good movie that throughout it and after it, I tried to imagine being one of the victims (particularly Lust, Sloth, or Pride). Just upsetting, but brilliant.

This one is a bit embarrassing, but it's all about the context, I think:
2. Event Horizon. The movie is pretty bad EXCEPT the fact that the 'dimension' that the ship went to was hell, the conceptualization of hell that was used was freaky and the video of the first flight's crew in hell was disturbing...and the way the movie ends does not help.

i love 'happiness'. good call w_z! definitely disturbing, especially scenes between the dad and his pre-pubescent son.

examples:
Billy Maplewood: [sobbing] ... would you ever fuck me?
Bill: No... I'd jerk off instead.
[sobs]

Bill: Have you tried playing with yourself?
Billy Maplewood: You mean...?
Bill: With your penis?
Billy Maplewood: A little.
Bill: How did it feel?
Billy Maplewood: I don't know? I don't know what to do.
Bill: Do you want me to, uh... show you?

another movie that was disturbing was "kids".

Pretty complete list, so far.
I'd add,
Henry - portrait of a serial killer
Deliverance

American History X bothered me a bit.
Then very end of Seven bothered me a great deal.

I don't watch horror, gore, scary, or suspense filled blood fests....i just tend to poke holes and make fun of them. I thought Blair Witch was funny.

unless people are being shot in the face in a WWII era film or having their arm cleaved by a saber or broad sword, i'm really not that interested.

actually...

Supersize Me was the most disturbing film I've ever seen.

Spun was a tough movie to watch the first time I saw it.

The curb scene from American History X, along with a couple other scenes, made me cringe a little bit.

Various scenes from the Saw series can be pretty uneasy to watch.
