I think you have to be a pedo to be attracted to Emily Browning. She has a cute face but her body looks like that of a child.

This leprechaun story seemed a bit indulgent for an 8 part season. I suppose they knew they were getting at least two years. I think the episode would make for a nice stand alone story. I really enjoy coming to America stories.

I wish Mad Sweeney had included a shot at ND when he was decrying the public view of the leprechaun but I doubt Gaiman is aware of the school and the American director has other agendas he has to shoehorn in to every episode.

I don't feel that they made enough progress with the story in eight episodes.

Also, whoever is producing/directing this thing ham handedly insinuates a political agenda into the opening scene each week. He wanted to make a point about Bilquis fleeing the Middle East but didn't want to make it so obvious that it was by Khomeni's fundamentalist movement. Instead he made her attackers look like drug lords from Scarface. The odd balancing act of the far left on full display.

This episode unintentionally details why we should hate the old gods. They are generally indifferent and when they do participate it is to callously toy with humans for their own amusement.

Also, the handling of Jesus is incoherent to the story. If Jesus is a subjective concept, then Odin, Eostre, ect., should be equally subjective with countless incarnations of them walking the earth. They also refuse to touch on the subject that if Jesus is the son of god, then "Allah" must be present to them in their pantheon and be much stronger than them due to continued worship.

It is very slow moving. I like the show, it is beautifully shot but it has its moments that feel like they can be condensed. Now you are at season break, mind you they were renewed very early on, and they aren't even to Wisconsin yet. I haven't read the story so I don't know where in the story we are at but this seems as if they have barely dipped their toes into it. The Tehran scene was a bit silly especially with the benefit that anyone with half a brain knows they were not scarface's henchman coming in and busting up discos.

The narrator even used words like "laundered" in relation of changing her power over to men. That is a word not commonly used in religion but very commonly used in drug empires.

I'm just spit balling ideas here, I don't think you will see Allah because he isn't forgotten like the old gods on the show... The multiple Jesus characters is strange, I agree with you on that.

but he is the elephant in the room if you are going to acknowledge Jesus in your universe. I don't care as it is a difficult story in which to provide complete coherence.

Also, I understand it was pretty edgy to have a homosexual Muslim but if they really want to set the world on fire they should represent Muhammad.

I have Starz. Missed this thread first time it was in active topics. I’ll give Season 1 a try.

Edit: ok gotta love the intro- “Their sails hung flabby like grandmother’s teet.” Lol

“You’re the sexiest god damn thing I have ever gotten to touch for free.” Nice

It's a crazy show.

I caught up last year and it was wild. Not sure what season 2 will bring as I think the writer and some actors aren't coming back after "creative disputes".

I should stop and wait for my wife. I think she’ll like it too.

Just turned this on. The talk of sucking peas had me thinking of Dr. Ken.

Liked the first episode.

Shadow is captured by someone. I assume Mr. World and the new Gods.

Seeing the old Gods in their real form was great.

And Cloris Leachman.

Shadow background tonight. He's a God or a God's son. Maybe Wednesday's. Which would make him Thor? Who knows.

Mad Sweeney and Laura chasing after Shadow was fun. And Black Betty being served as sacrifice.

Looks like Media will be coming back even if Gillian Anderson is not. Will be interesting to see what they do with the character since it was a huge part of season 1.

New Media is gonna cause problems. Laura got her groove back after taking care of Argus.

Mad Sweeney is gonna get saved by a Christian rock group.

Wednesday says he had Laura killed. Shadow gonna be pissed. Maybe.

My guess is, in the end, Laura and Shadow are both on a journey of self realization. Laura will learn that she has been romantically linked to Sweeney through eternity (as she was when they used Browning to play the character who brought him from Ireland). Shadow will learn that she is meant to be more of his savior than lover and that he is Odin's son. All three were brought together in this life, on purpose by Odin.

Media and Easter not appearing in corporal form definitely impacts the show. I mean, Eostre was set up to be a main character at the end of Season 1 and that very same day, as Season 2 begins, we get told she wouldn't join because Odin ran over a couple of bunnies. Weak writing. Just recast the characters like in a soap opera. It's certainly less awkward than trying to explain their continued existence but not participation

Well Media is back. She was "upgraded" and called herself New Media right?

Yeah hopefully they bring Easter back into the story.

Heavy on the racial politics. You are gods. Why didn't you do something about it. I think god existentialism gets convoluted at times in the story.

I like the turn of the story as it seems the African gods, who are black, have an agenda beyond that of Oden once they win. Czernobog should be black as well as that czarne means black in several Slavic languages, including polish.

I think they translated the Latin "memento mori" incorrectly. They translated as "remember, you will die". The translation and use I remember is "remember, thou art mortal" and was used as statement to early Caesars.

Researching it a little more, it looks like both are correct. The show's Latin translation comes from Christian Latin and follows the ash wensday reflection about ashes to ashes. Earlier it was the statement to Caesar. Obviously, it would not fit with where I think the story is going if the ghost told shadow to remember that he is mortal.

I didn't quite get him. He appeared to be bull headed and hot tempered well before he was stereotyped as bull headed and hot tempered.

I'm trying to figure out if he really killed Oden in the past or whether his story of killing Odin is the stylized story Ibis lead him to "remember" in furtherance of the secret plan the African gods appear to be hatching.

Yeah the whole thing was confusing as hell.

I guess we finally get confirmation that Shadow is Wednesday's kid.

Who knows if season 3 will ever happen.
