The Cubs best pitcher from last year has suffered another setback as Hendricks felt discomfort while tossing the ball. A lot of Cub fans on here, including me mentioned it would have been nice to have some SP depth at the beginning of the season. This guy Butler has filled in here and there but a seasoned pro with a better track record would have been nice. Now the Cubs might be forced to trade away prospects they did not have to last February.

I don't want to trade away prospects for any pitcher outside of Archer, if they win 84 games and miss the post season so be it... The team will be better in the long run if they hold onto prospects and not panic to get a wc berth or win this crappy division and get bounced quickly.

The Cubs need pitching for this year, next year, and the year after that. If the right deal comes along, it must be made.

No doubt, Archer tops the list, Quintana is meh and Tyson Ross or Sonny Gray aren't gonna cut it.

There are other options like Vargas, Jamie Garcia, Julio Teheran, Greinke, Cole, Odorizzi, Cobb...

Teheran is a guy I think they should take a serious look at.

Cole is a pipe dream, until he he's a FA, no thanks on Greinke and his 33 MIL a year til he's 37. Teheran is an intriguing acquisition.

Cole and PIT organization are at odds bigtime. They simply have to move him soon. The cubs would have to pay more than other teams but PIT and the Cubs both have pieces that can benefit the other.

The Pirates don't HAVE to do anything. You are hearing nothing rumors if anything at all.

letting Hammel walk was an uncharacteristic mistake of Theo from the beginning. Letting him walk seemed unnecessary. I know his performance has not been great but he seemed like one of those guys who pitched with greater comfort as a Cub.

The Rays and Diamondbacks are both pretty good this year, why would they sell? And if the Braves were willing to part with Teheran they would've done that already.

This is the bullshit Cubbie fan stuff that drives me nuts (yar). On the one hand it's all "yeah, revenue streams" and on the other it's "let's not spend money while the window is open".

If anything, this year should be a wake up call on how precious an opportunity to win is.

Epstein has stated (and acted in a consistent manner) that he thinks professional moves should be made every 10 years. This is year 6.

I said it was a mistake to let Hammel go with an option year left on his deal. The idea of having depth is a good one and as I said then, if everyone was healthy and he was outperformed by others, they could have dealt him for a prospect. Not having depth now, has proven to be a big problem. Also, you are right, Hammel did have better success here as a Cub. Whether it was a good fit with the manager and pitching coach or whatever else, he did better here. Well, before the All-Star break each year anyway.

Nah, the Braves put together a patchwork team this year, hoping to havea decent team for the first year in the new ballpark. But it hasn't worked out and they very well may look to deal guys at the deadline. Tehran might bring a major league position player as well as a good prospect. (Haap and Candelario for example)

When there is this much smoke, there is fire. The Pirates window is currently shut. Cutch and Jaso are gone after this season. Glasnow isn't ready yet. Meadows and Diaz are the only potential major leaguers ready to impact the team in 2017 and 2018. Cole is only under control through 2019 and we both know the Pirates have a less than 0% chance of keeping him past then.

The Pirates have to trade him. It doesn't have to be this summer though.

You can't have a 350 million dollar payroll, it hampers the team for years with shirty contracts to washed up vets, the window is open for a very long time, if they play it smart. I do agree that losing hammell hurts.
