We all know what happened. Some teenage kids got into a fight. One of them went to sit down or something on this cop's porch. Cop came out and told them not to leave and started choking the shit out of one of them and threatening to kill him. It's not all that hard to figure out.

As far as the press release goes, you're a willful moron if you aren't skeptical of any police statement on matters like this.

after actually reading the press release (or at least skimming it for the good parts) I don't think this is bad.

Apparently there was a massive fight amongst the balcks and it took place in this guy's neighborhood, apparelty very close to his house because he found a backpack in his backyard with a bb gun in it. Then a few seconds later he finds 2 of the kids on his front porch, one bleeding. If he was on duty I have no doubt he would've detained the kids for questioning based on the fact that it was a massive fight and he found a firearm in his backyard that was related to the incident. I have no problem with an off duty cop detaining a person for questioning given those facts and considering he had no weapons or handcuffs how else was he supposed to detain him?

Nothing to see here.

This is in my town, not too far from me actually. Race has nothing to do with this in my eyes, it has to do with a grown man putting his hands on a kid. I can tell you this, if this was my kid this guy would have some serious problems. I can tell you for a fact he would not be treating me the way he did this kid if it was me on his grass. I get it, people are tired of kids cutting through your grass or yard or etc, you don't like it put up a damn fence, problem solved.

The point is, the release makes reference to the actions and belongings of specific people. Whatever happened will come out in the next day. Not sure why everyone has to rush to judgment on an incident that unfolded over part of a day based on 30 seconds of video of course filmed vertically instead of horizontally. Also not sure why I care. I hate cops. And south-siders. They're all animals--white, black, oriental, muslim. Whatever.

To add to the race angle, I also dislike always bringing race into the discussion, and free ajent is right... this is more about an adult putting his hands on a 15 year old kid.

That said, It doesn't help that the kid also looks pretty tall and older... AND is black. I have a nephew who is almost this age and hasn't hit puberty (and is a little white snowflake). The imagery would be viewed a lot differently by MANY if this guy was choking my nephew rather than a bigger black kid.

Reading the article it appears as if there was a massive fight in his neighborhood with up to 20 kids. It sounds like it happened right by his house because he found a backpack in his backyard with a bb gun in it. How did that get there? Was the fight actually on his property? Then he finds two of the participants sitting on his front porch. I don't think it is unreasonable for him to feel threatened at that point or at least worry about his property and even his family members inside the house, let alone the well being of his neighborhood.

Seems to me like detaining as many of these punks as possible is a good move.

also, note that as soon as on duty cops showed up he relented and let them take over.

This is looking more and more like a whole lot of nothing involving a home owner who was rightfully scared and acted in a reasonable manner.

The verbal threats and poor language are red herrings and barely relevant.

The press release says the yard is fenced. But it is really poorly written.
