Don't know if you care, but at 2006 Backlash Vince actually booked a no-holds barred tag-team match of himself and his kid Shane vs. Shawn Michaels & God. Not a typo. Obviously the McMahons 'officially' went over. It was as dumb as one might suspect.

They just set up a Shabbos elevator in my building. The condo board is run by Orthodox Jews. I never attend any meetings but I do read the minutes and there was no mention of it in there. It kind of pisses me off, but I feel like it would be petty to go to a meeting just to beef about it.

Anyway, I find it as utterly ridiculous as if the board had voted to create an entrance to the building for ghosts. Beyond that, I think it's phony religiousness. You know G_d's intention was that you not operate machinery on the Sabbath. Do you really think he wanted you to figure out a work-around?

But Israel literally means "he who struggles with G_d". I mean it took a lot of chutzpah for Jacob to wrestle an angel. Even Roddy Piper probably wouldn't have done that. A Catholic would never try to outsmart God. We just do what we want and figure we can ask for forgiveness later. But the Jews have a special relationship with G_d. They're always trying to bust him on a technicality. I can actually picture shakes putting G_d on the stand and grilling him on the meaning of keeping holy the Sabbath.

Haven't read the whole thread yet, did we do the joke about how the Orthodox rabbi says it's okay to fly on the Sabbath because if you put on your seatbelt, you're wearing a plane?

The problem with the Palestinian elevator is that it's fine going up but you really don't wanna be in there when it's heading for the ground floor.

Well their school and church are directly south of Tampico. Beyond that they are all around the area east of 78 and west of 40 along 92. Range all the way up to 88 and down to 80. All of that is small pockets but there are a couple hundred probably.

My sister's best friend's brother-in-law (exhale) is from some weird Christian community in Wisconsin, somewhere around Elkhorn, I think. I don't think they're Amish but maybe they're Mennonites or something. All I know is they lived on a farm and were homeschooled and all the kids slept in one bed together. Now this guy holds hands with his sister in public and his wife has to explain to him why that's bad. Also, I'm 90% certain he's gay.

Hahaha. I didn't ask him about Taylor Swift's Awesomeness Today. Maybe I should have. We all played Catch Phrase at Christmas and he ruined it for everyone when he couldn't give coherent clues for "Final Exam" because he had never gone to school.

Those are the worst. Never heard of them to I went to Israel. Thankfully the hotel I was staying at had enough elevators where they could keep half of them running normally. I take it that's not the case in your building?

Near I-88--well, I think it is in the northern part of Bureau County, so maybe not as far north as I-88

yea its stupid. I have one good friend who follows this and its a pain in the ass. Played golf with him a few weeks ago on a Saturday and first had to drive to his house and put his clubs in my car while he rode his bike 4 miles to the course and then walked the entire course and rode his bike home while I had to drive his clubs home and put them in his garage. When we were out of town I had to turn on his ceiling fan for him every night. He also has the cheats where all his stuff at home is on timers, but he acknowledges that as cheating at least.

Rough lifestyle and a massive amount of sacrifice goes into it. He gave up a chance to play hockey for University of Michigan because most games are on Friday and Saturdays. Not to mention never going out on a Friday night.

There are two eruv in my neighborhood.

I'm sure you've noticed, but living in an eruv gives you a healthy boost to your property values as there are Orthodox Jews lining up to buy limited housing inventory.

yep that's true. They all have to live within walking distance of their temple. My buddy just moved here from Detroit and it came down to Highland Park, Northbrook or Deerfield as the only places he could live unless he wanted to live in the city.

I drive through the neighborhood between Devon and Peterson and west of Lincoln and its really something to see the massive homes in there. The Jews outgrow their homes, make some money and end up buying two homes next to each other, tear them down and build the kind of large homes you only see in the suburbs.

wouldn't it have been cheaper to just hire a goy to operate the elevator once a week?

There's three elevators and two of them are normal. It's been two Saturdays so far and I haven't really noticed. I'm a fit motherfucker and I often take the twelve flights of stairs anyway.

 He's not really supposed to golf on Shabbos either, is he?

A friend of mine's grandfather was a longtime member of the shul at Lunt and California. He lived in Lincolnwood and when he was old it was too much for him to walk. So he would drive his car and park it a block away, which was still a long walk for the old man. Rabbi Kaganoff (I only know his name because he has an honorary street sign and I ride past it everyday.) knew what was going on and took him aside and told him to park his car in his space. He said something like, "The rules are great but I'm pretty sure G_d didn't intend for you to drop dead of a heart attack."
