There's three elevators and two of them are normal. It's been two Saturdays so far and I haven't really noticed. I'm a fit motherfucker and I often take the twelve flights of stairs anyway.

2 of the 3 are normal. So why are you complaining? Is the 3rd elevator your favorite or something?

I don't want to bore you with condo politics but this is just like the straw that broke the camel's back.

I represent a few HOAs and it never ceases to amaze me how petty people can be.

I can't really complain since I don't want to deal with the bullshit. People have asked me to run for the board, but I don't want to make that commitment. If you're gonna show up to these meetings and run your big mouth, it's only a matter of time before others are telling you to get your ass on the board. That's why I don't go to the meetings. I don't want to get myself agitated.

Suffice it to say that I have some basic philosophical differences with the current board. I see everyone in the building as a neighbor and my view would be that we want to be courteous to each other. They seem to favor what I consider draconian policy that follows the letter of the law rather than the spirit, often invoking technicalities to fuck with people who haven't done anything that would actually affect others in the building.

You might be following the letter of Jewish law, but you'r certainly breaking the spirit of it with stuff like this, electric timers, etc. Just my 2 cents.

Granted I say this as an agnostic Jew who eats pulled pork sandwiches and enjoys shellfish because damn they are good.

yea its stupid. I have one good friend who follows this and its a pain in the ass. Played golf with him a few weeks ago on a Saturday and first had to drive to his house and put his clubs in my car while he rode his bike 4 miles to the course and then walked the entire course and rode his bike home while I had to drive his clubs home and put them in his garage. When we were out of town I had to turn on his ceiling fan for him every night. He also has the cheats where all his stuff at home is on timers, but he acknowledges that as cheating at least.

Rough lifestyle and a massive amount of sacrifice goes into it. He gave up a chance to play hockey for University of Michigan because most games are on Friday and Saturdays. Not to mention never going out on a Friday night.

 He's not really supposed to golf on Shabbos either, is he?

A friend of mine's grandfather was a longtime member of the shul at Lunt and California. He lived in Lincolnwood and when he was old it was too much for him to walk. So he would drive his car and park it a block away, which was still a long walk for the old man. Rabbi Kaganoff (I only know his name because he has an honorary street sign and I ride past it everyday.) knew what was going on and took him aside and told him to park his car in his space. He said something like, "The rules are great but I'm pretty sure G_d didn't intend for you to drop dead of a heart attack."

I don't quite know why but

I didn't realize there was an Amish community out that way. Where in proximity to Tampico?

Near I-88--well, I think it is in the northern part of Bureau County, so maybe not as far north as I-88

Southern Whiteside/northwest bureau and northeast Henry.

Damn....you know the territory

I had an awesome vintage apartment near the lake in Evanston. It was in a building on the Register of Historic Places. I loved that place. But the bedroom was right on the alley and my wife is one of these "princess and the pea" types that is bothered by everything when she is trying to sleep. God forbid a fuckin' car should drive down the alley. Me, I could lie down in the flower bed median of Irving Park Road and be sleeping soundly in three minutes.

Anyway, my wife had the place we live in now and it's pretty nice. Of course she won out so I ended up selling mine. No big deal. But I will say that the building has become progressively more Orthodox since I've lived there. The reputation for being a Jewish stronghold had kind of faded in the 90s but now it seems like it's back. Maybe my Russian buddies and I are going to have to take control of this place.

I rarely use the pool but don't get me started on that. The fucking thing was down for repair during the entire summer of 2016. Also, I'm not keen on "modest swimwear".
