Yep. Obama never elevated anyone but himself.

Top 3 candidates for 2020 have a combined age that is above 200 years.

I don't blame Obama entirely, but he mucked up a big opportunity in 2008.

I do because he never wanted to work with other Dems either. His inner circle consisted of politicians from the Machine.

He squandered a golden opportunity. He had both houses at the start of his Presidency.

Oh, this country doesn't even know what the far left is. Bernie Sanders and his New Deal progressivism is unremarkable anywhere but right here and right now. Acceptable political thought shouldn't end at "ruthless capitalism and warmongering but also gay pride parades."

Trump winning opens the possibility of literally anyone being qualified in Americans eyes.

Really, what would be so different between Trump and a Kardashian if office?

Jesse Ventura in 2020!

It has to be the worst kept secret that Zuckerberg is eyeing a run right? I mean his 50 states thing?

So he is? I didn't know if that was just white supremacist fear-mongering.

He's tweeting pics of tenderloins!

Actually, I've read theories that as head of product he is just touring the nation to connect with Facebook users for ideas on the future.

It surprised me that not too many of the far left people I knew were actually for Sanders. Social class is the gigantic blind spot in American life. Not saying it is intentional, but still, what a cultural coup.

I don't think that is true. Some of his proposals do exist in other countries but his entire platform would have been fairly extreme just about anywhere especially without the limits that other countries put on things like free tuition.

Very interesting question....they have to focus on the electoral votes to win, meaning it can't be someone too far left.
I don't know much about Tulsi Gabbard, but from the limited info I've read, they'd be smart to start building her up. Something tells me, though, the far left has way too much influence and they'll go that route....and lose.

hm, speaking of

Quote:
Trudeau has shown some legislative muscle to support the Canadian LGBTQ community: Last year, he introduced legislation promising “full” protective rights for transgender people, and his government has promised to apologize for the firing of thousands of federal workers because of their sexuality as part of a "national security" purge during the Cold War by the end of the year. But how inconvenient a truth that last April, his government also approved export permits as part of a multi-billion-dollar arms sale to Saudi Arabia, a country infamous for their repressive crackdowns on the LGBTQ community.

Gabbard is a little hard to classify. She's got some far left cred for speaking out against the DNC and resigning from the vice chair to endorse Sanders as well as her tepid at best endorsement of HRC after Sanders lost. That said, it doesn't seem like she passes enough purity tests to get full support from some of the far left, and the more establishment types are blackballing her because they don't consider her party loyal. Some have even called for her to be primaried in 2018.

If by some miracle she got through the democratic primary, I think she stands the best chance of pulling in some independents, libertarians, and maybe some anti-trump republicans...at least more than anyone else the dems would put out there. I'm an admitted Gabbard fanboy, though.

Jacobin came out really strong against Tulsi, using the same "____ is not your friend" title that Tim Baffoe uses. One of the biggest complaints on the left is that she supports Narendra Modi and his ruling party in India, which is hostile to Muslims.

1) what the mainstream American public knows and feels about Indian politics can be written on a postage stamp with room to spare, myself emphatically included

2) Indian Americans themselves really seem to like Modi and the BJP

3) when everyone finds out the guy wants to beat back the caliphate, they will say, "oh, that's a good thing"
