So now that its no longer early maybe we can address the myriad problems that the THE WORLD SERIES CHAMPS have. This season has been borderline unwatchable. All I see are a bunch of self-satisfied " everything is fine here" chumps who believe their own hype, who certainly thought they'd be able just to throw the mitts out there and win 90 games with nothing but a bunch of built in excuses . I think almost to a man, they didn't work hard at all in the off season and the Lovie Smith country club spring training to bring them along slowly obviously hasn't worked, The way this team is currently constructed they won't go on a long run of winning games , theyre just not capable of doing that this year. Theyre more likely to lose 6 in a row than win 6 thats for sure. Second half isn't going to be any better unless people actually fucking believe Arrieta , Lackey, etc are going to get better as the season progresses which is highly doubtful. All in all, they couldn't follow up a WS winning year any worse to this point yet somehow the arrow still points down. Just fucking brutal all around.

Lackey's finished. I wouldn't be surprised if Arrieta had a good second half.

They'll win the division with an 82-80 record.

The bullpen is gonna be blown out by August too considering their starters go about 5 innings , 6 at best this year .

This season has sucked so far.... absolutely no doubt. The only silver lining is they are not worse off than they are. They are lucky to be just one game under 500. They play in a shit division, so who knows what will happen.

I'm sorry Rogue. It doesn't work exactly as Bernsie says it should.

I don't expect them to win it all every year Mike but I did ( do) expect them to be competitive. I take zero solace from the fact that they play in a terrible division so its ok for them to be mediocre too because theyre still close. IF they go 82-80 and win the division, theres no way to expect them to beat LA or Warshington. Last year I knew they were a good team, this year they have no shot.

Almost every player has failed to meet expectations this year...that's pretty hard to do. Other than Edwards Jr., the only exceptions are newcomers Wade Davis and John Jay, which speaks to poor offseason preparation and coaching.

I know bud. I'm pushing others buttons. There was an assumption with the bites of the apple stuff that was quite frankly insulting to the rest of baseball.

2006 Cardinals fans thought the exact same thing.

I am in no way saying this Cub team is going to do that. But once in the playoffs anything can happen.

They're in the hunt. For non competitive baseball look at the other side of town.

Actually it is. There were some that felt there was no need for the rest of the National League to even try to beat the almighty Cubs. I thin the Dodgers and Nationals etc and their fans thought fuck these guys.

That is because you are not emotionally invested in the Sox.

There's some truth to what he's saying. Like a month ago or so the Nationals announcers were saying almost the exact same thing. Talking about how there are other teams in the NL too and everyone is sick of hearing about the Cubs

Oh no doubt I am sure there are many who are sick of the Cubs. That is fair. But to stretch that into saying people were saying there as no need for the rest of the NL to even try is just silly.

sure some had those expectations....but again the idea that some were proclaiming that the rest of the NL just pack it up is just made up.

Who cares, they got to the mountaintop and that's all that matters. Game 7 goes the other way and it's an all time fall from grace, but now it's just a hangover.

This season is to Market Garden as last year was to Overlord. The war is over, all that you're playing for now is style points. The Sox will be gone to Montreal or Havana in 10 years and the Cubs will have yuppie Disneyland all to themselves.

Spot on, BRogue.

You can tell just watching this team that they don't have it this year. If they win this shitty division, they will get steamrolled.

Another die hard Cub fan relative and I were discussing if Arrieta might get traded in a 3-way deal to an AL team looking for a pure rental. Astros, for example. Cubs would get a starter with some contract control for 2018-2019, third team would get a couple of prospects from both the Cubs and the AL team. After all, Theo is the guy who said "fuck this" and traded Nomah in 2004 in the middle of a pennant race.

He characterized this year's team as "a friendly version of 2004's underachievers." At that halfway point, no way I can disagree.

I don't think they DFA Lackey and let him go to a contender, but I doubt he gets any meaningful starts after 9/1.

If they played in the NL West instead of San Diego, they'd be lucky to be 33-48.

I'm tired of hearing the hangover talk. Maybe you can say that early in April, but by now you should be performing and balling. If they don't win the division someone needs to fired. They were still picked to win 95-100 games this season. To be under .500 is inexcusable. For Theo and Jed to not have picked up pitching yet is ridiculous. The team has plenty of money and assets, make a move. Guys like Heyward who have been out for weeks because of a fucking cut is embarrassing.

If the Cubs are under .500 on July 15th, Barstool's WSD is going to jump into the Chicago River. He has a bet going on Red Line Radio.

Keep losing Cubbies!

This is amazing.

You not only transposed an NBA quote ("not one..not two...") into another sport.....in which that quote wasn't famously used that I know of,

BUT - you have REPEATEDLY criticized people for using emojis in a response....SPECIFICALLY the " " emoji......

You've dismissed this many times... emojis don't count....says you.....

Of course, I'll give you an out. I haven't been around as much lately. Maybe you've changed your STRONG stance on these things.
Or probably.....you forgot.

Let me just head you off at your next "predictable" post:
Have you, or have you not, repeatedly criticized posters for using " " in their responses?
An answer seems obviously simple.
