I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.

Hey everybody, no one can shoot off fireworks on the 4th of July anymore because this Star-Spangled Dickhead over here just got a dog.

I saw a guy spend over $2k on fireworks and another spend $1600 yesterday. I buy fireworks every year but that was ridiculous.

I'll bet some of my neighbors spent close to that. Two Mexican families were launching fireworks from Friday night through last night. They had some pretty heavy duty stuff.

A man was killed on the Southwest Side Tuesday night when he bent over a fireworks tube that hadn't ignited and it suddenly went off, striking him in the head, according to police and fire officials.

David Griffin, 42, was with children in an alley in the 2500 block of West 54th Street in Gage Park when he set up a fireworks display around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Griffin lit a tube made to shoot fireworks 40 to 50 feet into the air but it did not go off, fire officials said. He bent over the tube and the fireworks went off and hit him in the face.

He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and pronounced dead at 9:54 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Griffin lived on the block where the accident happened.
